    Newsweeks recent antics

Recently Newsweek published a report saying that US interrogators in Guantanamo had abused the Quran.

Is it just me, or should somebody go skull fuck the person who allowed that story? I mean, lets be realistic here.. their story has caused the deaths of over 15 people in Afghanistan alone, and put the Muslim world on edge. Further violence could be a very real possibility from this issue.

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapc...ran/index.html

Whoever apparently "leaked" that... should be beaten to within an inch of death.

    Hi Eggs,

That's "Koran". (Just saying is all). Or so I thought. Maybe I am wrong. For sure I am not perfect and do not know it all by any stretch. I'll have to check on this when I have time...

Hey, look what it caused - murder, death, unrest, etc. Hatred of us even more. Hell it isn't hard to have these people want to hate us even more than they already do. We play right into their hands...

Right. Sometimes we do some really stupid stuff. I hope the violence ends soon. Doubt it though.

How does that slip by the editors unless they felt nothing was wrong with the act itself which means they weren't being objective. If I had read that as an editor I would immediately start checking sources instead of just blindly assuming that it could have happened.

Most likely it was a rushed attempt to be the first to break the next Abu Ghraib type incident.

You are wrong, either or is fine.

I agree with Eggs, that is ridiculous.

Someone needs to tell this bearded asshole:

So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Since when has the media cared about the ramifications of there actions? Maybe back in the forties but not since.

They'll only care until they think they're past it and then they'll do it again.

They believe what they want to believe. It doesn't have to make sense, or be the truth... so long as it feeds their anger and gives them cause to hate the US. Which makes it obvious that the problem isn't necessarily what the US does, but just that they hate the US, and look for any reason to express that. The US has done stuff to make the Muslim world angry, but I don't believe that we'd be any safer having not taken our present course of action. In fact, we could be less safe, as many of these people only respond to and recognize violence in their lives.

I think NEWSWEEK should have been more responsible with this BEFORE they published the article. They should have checked into all this much more beforehand.

Definitely... so many news organizations try to get the scoop before everybody else does these days that they set themselves up for mistakes like this.

Like Manic said, it sounds like they weren't very objective about the information and didn't realize what a big deal it would be to Muslims. Even if they had been correct on the information, they should have thought twice about spreading it all around the world considering the effect it could have.

In this case, for Newsweek, a few thousand more copies sold was worth the 15 deaths. Sooo, at a $.57 a copy, they obviously dont put a very high value on peoples lives.

    Hi Eggs,

    I AGREE with you COMPLETELY!!!

It seems to me there is a "code" (guidelines) they should be following and if there is not there should be.

Always running with something is not really responsible reporting. Whoever wrote this article was not at all thoughtful. Or responsible in their reporting.

    Take Care, John H.
