Nice read.

SourceHere's an interesting story you might get a chuckle out of concerning Arnold.
Everybody assumes that when he came to America he trained under the trainer of champions, Joe Weider. Nothing could be further from the truth. Weider just promoted Arnold and made a lot of money. Actually they both promoted each other and made a lot of money. Arnold's German industrial sponsor sent him to Vince. Of course, Arnold had a pretty big ego, although he was not that good when he started, being rather on the fat, fleshy side. He walked into Vince's Gym (John Balik, the editor of IRONMAN can substantiate this story as he was standing right there) and said, "I'm Arnold Schwarzennegger from Austria and I'm Mr. So and So." Vince looked up at him through his granny glasses and responded, "You're nothing but a fat you-know-what." For two years, Arnold spent time at Vince's Gym Then, after Joe Weider signed him, he went on to become a movie star and multi-millionaire. Years later, Arnold told Balik that was the best thing that ever happened to him because he thought he was king of the world and Vince brought him right down, shattered his ego. That about sums up Vince and says a lot for Arnold.
Vince Gironda was the man.

Nice read.

I really don't think he gets enough credit, growing up I brought into thinking Weider made Arnold into what he is physically speaking.
I read all about that years ago...Arnold was 265 at the time. Great thread min0![]()
I highly recommend all IronMagLabs supplements!

I always skimmed his stuff but I plan on paying closer attention to his stuff.

He was ahead of his time.*Heard of the low carb diet craze? Vince advocated it forty years ago.
*Read about smaller meals spaced throughout the day? Forty years ago Vince was instructing his students to follow such a diet plan.
*For building tremendous muscle size, heard about training less frequently, but more intensely? This concept is once again taking hold but Vince advocated it fifty years ago.
I have heard of this but you're right he definitely dosen't get enough credit. Good Post

I actually had just started looking into liver tablets awhile ago this article settles it I'm definitely getting some today.

Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

One magazine that seems to be in charge is Muscle Media. A lot of people read it, and they say, "Well, if Bill Phillips says it, it must be true. Bill Phillips says liver tablets are no good." Let me tell you something about Bill Phillips and liver. He panned liver, said it was not good. It's old time bodybuilding, he said. He wouldn't take it because it traps toxins in the body, and that's got to be terrible.
The liver probably has a thousand functions. It manufactures hormones, it filters, it converts amino acids to protein, it transfers nutrients… I could go on and on. It contains P450, which happens to detoxify drugs and a thousand bad substances in your body. Liver is a unique food, and that's why Vince turned me onto it. Liver used to be the staple of bodybuilding, and now some guy says its no good and nobody uses it. Liver is a phenomenal food. When an animal can get any food of its choice, organ meat is what it goes for first. It an animal gets an egg, it eats the whole egg. It doesn't just eat the white and throw the yolk away.
Phillips promotes creatine, and creatine is a great product if you don't abuse it. But remember, the reason Vince advocated a lot of liver, a lot of glands, and a lot of meat is that they contain creatine. That's why when you took liver tablets; you got a tremendous amount of energy. Plus the fact that liver contains cytochrome C, which is an iron-bonding amino acid that draws oxygen into the bloodstream. The p450 in the liver is s tremendous antioxidant and detoxifier, probably the most powerful known. Dr. P.H. Ersoff at the University of Michigan proved that in the early 1950's. See why liver and glands and meat are so important? Because they're hormone-precursing nutrients. (Just ask the Indians).
