Great post, maybe it will wake some people up who drink and drive with no regard for the safety of others.![]()
first i'll throw up some backround information so people kindda know where i'm coming from. i have a buddy that is in a crappy cover band, and they get gigs every so often at bars and stuff like that. so sunday they had a pretty big gig, it was a 3 set gig from 9-12. obviously we were at a bar and almost everyone was drinking, i opted not to because i had work the next day and just plain didn't want to drink.
so the band plays the show, and we all hang out afterwards eating pizza and just sitting around. around 1am, my two friends (tony who is the band's bassist and will who is our buddy) decide they want to smoke some pot and try to talk me into smoking with them. i decided not to, because once again i had work and there was a girl there i wanted to hang out with for a bit. so they leave and the rest of us chill out for a bit before going our seperate ways for the night.
i'm driving home on the highway, monday ~1:30am and all of a sudden there is standstill traffici then get a little farther and see that there are tons of sirens and lights up in front. "great," i say to myself, "some dickhead must've wrecked his car or someshit." so as i pass by the scene where the accident happened i look over to the service road by the highway and see a red explorer laying on its roof on a tow truck. my friend tony owns a red explorer...so just to make sure i give him a call to check up. no answer. i call him 3 more times and each time it rings and then goes to voice mail. getting a little nervous, i double back and go by the wrecked explorer. i come up to the truck look inside and all a sudden it hits me that this is my friend's car (i saw his grill guard, head unit and bass guitar in the back).
at this point i'm freaking out because the truck looks smashed, the grill guard is almost unrecognizable (it looked like cooked spaghetti), all the glass is broken, the car is just a fuckin mess. so the tow truck guy tells me they probably took them to coney island hospital, which was like a block away from where we were and the car accident happened. i fly to the hospital only to find out they took my buddy across brooklyn to a different hospital. meanwhile, i have no idea what happened, how bad he is hurt or even if the both of them are together. i start calling the other hospital and the guy that i talked to told me that they did recieve a call about atleast one guy who is hurt, he says that they usually only call in if it is pretty serious injuries and that there might be more than one but one for sure. at that point i start buggin out.
i start calling everyone i can think of, and head over there. to cut out the non interesting parts, i skip to the nitty gritty.
my buddy tony was drunk, he blew double to alcohol limit and was arrested for DWI.
the truck started fish tailing, then spinning on the highway and one of the wheels hit the middle divider and the truck started flipping.
my buddy will was ejected from the car at some point and the police told us he was lucky to be alive because apparently the truck flipped over him. so he was probably inches away from being dead. fortunately though all his tests came back normal and all he has are cuts, abrasions and bruises.
tony was taken to central bookings by the police at around 4-5am and will was released from the hospital at 7am. we spent all night at the hospital. i didn't get a wink of sleep, i came home took a shower and went straight to work.
so there you have it folks, tony is looking at community service and won't be seeing a license till he's probably 30 years old (we are all 19-20 y/o btw). will is lucky to have his life and niether want to see alcohol for the rest of their lives'. if will would have died, tony would be charged with vehicular manslaughter and would've been sent to riker's island so a big guy named bubbah would make him his bitch.

Yeah, definitely. Glad nobody had any serious injuries... and that they learned a good lesson with minor consequences. Good post Yan.
I hope this helps some people from drinking and driving. That's a sad story

Just curious Yan, did your brother learn anything from this story???

i'm not saying i've never drank and drove, but as of late i've been opting not to drink if i knew i was gonna be driving. and even when i did drive it was after a beer or two, so the impairment was nil. it was a pretty scary night, especially when the emergency room guy told me about that call they got in, i really thought someone was gonna be hurt bad.
oh dude, my brother has greatly mellowed out since last you two talked. remember you guys are older and past your crazy stage, i'm still smack dab in the middle of mine so i need to learn from these situations, and learn i have, believe me.Originally Posted by P-funk

I'm sorry it had to take an experience like this to convey that message. If you think you drive better drunk you are a fucking idiot. By doing this are endangering your life and the lives of many random others.
anybody who drives after drinking all night is just plain stupid. (no offense to you yanick) ...im glad he is ok but people really need to think twice before doing something stupid. I've already lost 2 friends of mine throughout high school due to drunk driving and yet some of my friends have not learned their lesson and continue to do this.

Not just drunk, but stoned. When I was in my hardcore party stage I moved into town near the bars & clubs and didn't own a car so I wouldn't accidently end up in that situation. I have never driven even after one drink unless I sat around for 2 hours drinking water and coffee.

where did you read me saying that i drive better drunk? i said if i'm driving after drinking, i'm not shit faced falling all over the floor but after maybe a beer or two which is honestly not even enough to buzz me.Originally Posted by GSXR750
and no, he wasn't stoned. he was on his way to pick up a bag but never got there. its a good thing because had he admitted to have been high or worse yet had they actually had weed on them the problems would be so much worse.
btw, in no way am i condoning drinking and driving or making any excuses for me or him. i'm just stating that i'm no angel, and niether are any of you guys so lets leave this whole holier than thou shit at the door because we've all done shit we're not proud of when we were young.

I don't know what disappoints me more, the fact that you abstained from drinking, or the fact that you made a horrible decision to cheat on your diet by eating pizza. Come on now, yur better than that.Originally Posted by Yanick
