    Thumbs up Fast Food Nation

I just watched the movie Super Size Me (again) and this time I watched all of the bonus section, after watching the interview with Eric Schlosser author of the book "Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal" I went to Amazon.com and bought it!

I get the salad at Wendys... the new Med salad is pretty decent and has a fair amount of chickens, and decent fats (from feta, etc). Actually, havent been to a fast food place in a little while. Did go to a Fudruckers last night though for a big burger

Super Size Me is the epitome of sensationalism.

I saw a book (I'll try to find it) where a woman was pissed off by Super Size Me and did the same thing...except she counted and restricted her calories and LOST weight. I don't remember all of her meals, but breakfast was an Egg McMuffin.

i make homemade burgers with ground turkey. the trick is not to pat the meat into a patty but just cut it like it comes in the box n they are juicy n tender that way. if i do take my kids to mcdonalds i have the chicken sandwich and a diet cola. kids learn to make healthy choices by watching you do it.

It's my understanding that she had started her diet a year or two before Super Size Me came out. But Super Size Me is what motivated her to go public with her diet.

Another guy who worksout did the 30 day Mickey Dees thing heres his website. http://www.truthinfitness.org/

Notice it has in bold writing that it's a "not for profit corp" I wonder how many donations from a certain Ray Croc (or others somehow linked) his 501c corp received?

I think he has a point though, that fast food isn't the main culprit for the nations obesity epidemic, that lack of exercise is the biggest reason.

I did the Adkins diet....and ate 2 egg mcmuffens every day ( no bun) and lost 17 lbs in 3 weeks.....but I think the movie covers about 100 other reasons not to eat that crap

Part of the point of Super Size Me was that he did what the average American did. Meaning no exercise, even to the point of taking cabs to work, eating way more calories than normal. That woman not only worked out regularly but she restricted her diet to 1200-1500 calories per day. You can eat drywall and lose weight with that amount of calories.

But the most amazing thing about Spurlock wasn't his weight gain. His liver was destroyed, his blood lipids almost tripled and his sex drive vanished - way more severe health problems than just weight gain.

And Prince, Fast Food Nation is a great book - but don't eat before reading it!

    Very interesting book Robert.

Lot of $$$, politics, and special interests involved in the lucrative Fast Food Industry.

The part about the chemical testing at McDonalds gave me the spooks.

of course you/she (or anyone) will lose weight on a calorie restricted diet, that is not really the point of the movie...I gaurantee if I cut my calories to 1200 per day and ate shit food I would lose weight too!

the main point of Super Size Me is to show how f'ing bad the garbage, that they refer to as food, is for you. (McDonalds, as well as the other big chains, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, etc.) As well as the shit they feed to our kids in school.

did you even see the movie Pepper?

Most people do not want to know the realities of fast food, probably because they eat it. But the fact of the matter is it's causing huge health problems, not only in America, thanks to McDonalds it is now world wide.

I agree to a point, but McDonalds' global expansion does NOT preclude all people from being responsible with what they eat. McDonalds or not, people who choose to eat irresponsibly would do so regardless of what was available to them.

    Whatever happened to "moderation?"

On the one hand we have overweight people abusing fast food and suffering. On the other, we have people who want them shut down.

A fucking BigMac every now and then won't kill you.

Plenty of things, if abused, cause huge health problems. Recently, things have been banned for that very reason and I seem to recall you getting pissed about it.

If people couldn't run down to the local FF joint and get a grease sponge with a side of grease sticks and an iced corn syrup beverage they would sit at home and make their own. And grease fires are dangerous imagine the increase in house fires if that were to happen.

I was at the store tonight getting some natty PB. In the 10-items-or-less line, there were about 5 people buying ice cream (it was over 100 here today.)

Everyone of them were very overweight.

Maybe I should eat nothing but ice cream for a month and make a movie to prove that such excess will cause health problems.

i can eat fast food whenever i want. I am a pure ecto morph building some size. I never get fat. You wouldnt believe how much fast food i used to eat everyday before i started lifting. I basically had 2-3 meals a day from either wendy's, mcdonalds, burger king, or taco bell.

I could still eat it if i wanted to, but i havent had that shit in like 7 months. I'm very surprised myself but i actually enjoy eating steak, chicken and tuna.

why the passionate defense of fast food?

I do not think they should be shut down (although I would not care), but I do think they should at least serve real food rather than the mass produced, over processed, chemical ridden shit that they sell.

I do not care about the dumbass adults that choose to shove that garbage down their pie holes daily, but I do think it is very unfair to our children who do not know any better.

The obesity rate of children is climbing, granted it is not 100% due to fast food, but a large percent is. We have working parents that would rather go through the McDonalds drive thru and get their kids a Happy Meal rather than take the time to cook a real meal. We also have our schools serving fast food in the cafeterias, it starts in elementary school. That is the reality today.
