so this is what a plane looks like going Mach 1 (750 mph).

Awesome, that white stuff around them is the air condensing and forming clouds right?
Does that effect multiply at mach 2, 3, etc?

What causes that cloud formation thingee?

It's going so fast that is pushes the air closer together around it, causing it to condense and form clouds

Those are really cool pics Lam
Damn, I want to know what the people inside look like going Mach 1. LOL.

They say your face looks 40 years older with the g-forces involved.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

apparently the space shuttle goes <Mach 25 on re-entry. that's just sick !![]()

that's very cool. wow.
Don't look back ~ You're not going that way!

I AM A FAN OF STARTREK TNG, I love that show.
they would have to go 249.4 "mach's" in order to go the speed of light.
Nice.

I can't see in happening for a couple of hundred years. the power plant would be the second hardest thing to design with the guidance system being first.

u cant even measure mach's like that tho, as they differentiate on ur elevation, the thinner the air the harder (or easier?) it is to break the sound barrier, we learned about it in chemisty, so i dont really know the reason or care.

I think the two main things that inhibit us from achieving that speed is our limited capabilities with metalurgy and the frailty of the human body.
We currently do not have anything strong enough to travel that fast without burning up. Next, until we can control the inertia of such force, the human body would liquify at such velocity.
Although it's a long way from light speed, I am excited about the progress science has made with Hydrogen power and electromagnetics. These two sho great promise in the future of propulsion.
