i just got a great digital camera. a canon powershot a95. the pc i have now is an old piece of crap running windows xp till i buy a new 1 in oct. i spent alllll damn day trying to download pics. it keeps saying the usb device has malfunctioned. grrrr. i downloaded drivers n installed windows service pk 2... i got info off the canon website n installed a twain thing. nothing is working. there are not enuf swear words in the english language.

any ideas?

Try it in another pc and see if it works. Sometimes the problem is in the camera.

If you are using XP...

Get rid of the camera drivers and let windows auto pick it's choice of driver...

Did your USB ports work before??
the problem may be with the actual port, not the camera or windows

i'm going to steal some usb ports off another comp n try those. but i disconnected the usb thing n rebooted n the pc saw the ports n said they were installed n ready to use.

I have a Powershot A70 and my Wife has the A80. Using them both on XP and Win2k with no problems.

Now... One simple solution is to go out and buy a cheap Compact_Flash_Card_Reader. It'll run you anywhere from 10 to 30 dollars (depending on which model you buy and where you buy it). The Card Reader enables you to directly access the files off the card without the need for the silly twain drivers or cannon software. I use it all the time!

Dont you have USB ports attached to the Mainboard or wired to from the front of the computer?

Is it a USB add-on card you are using?

this pc is a clunker a friend of my daughters set up for her it had no usb ports i put a card in from another pc n it has run stuff before printer n so on but nothing canon my scanner won't work w it either.

Are you hand picking all the parts??
if so, you might as well do it yourself - (depending on the assembly cost)

it should only take about 2-3 hours...
45 min + software loading -

very nice thanks. n i thought of it being the cannon software n i uninstalled it all. supposedly w windows xp you can dowload the images without the software... didn't work.

i'll have to check vanity's list n start picking parts up now i guess... maybe. i will ask him a ton of questions tonite about what doing it myself entails.

It can be any brand -

so when you plug in the camera...
with the camera power on or off (whatever your destructions say)

you can't just go to MY COMPUTER and find like a D,E,F or similar external drive
or device?

When you plug it in does windows pop-up hte new hardware detected warning thingee
