Arrow Favorite bible verses... (for believers or those who hope to believe)

    My favorite verse...

    PSALM 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside still waters,

    3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
    for his name's sake.

    4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
    You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
    forever.
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless those who bless me as I gladly accept their blessings, and curse those who curse me all the while protecting me for any evils. In Christ name, amen...

    Leviticus 25:44-46
"Slaves, male and female, you may indeed posses, provided you buy them from among the neighboring nations. You may also buy them from among the aliens who reside with you and from their children who are born and reared in your land. Such as slaves you may own as chattels, and leave to your sons as their hereditary property, making them perpetual slaves.

    almost sounds like fox news.
And if you are a slave you are to serve your master with all that is in you... If he ask you the tend to 3 things tend to 4... For it's not him that you will be serving but God. In all you do no matter what it is do your best! Do it as unto God and not man...

almost sounds like something Christ would say.

    Deuteronomy 20:13-14
and the Lord, your God, delivers it into your hand, put every male in it to the sword; but the women and children and livestock and all else in it that is worth plundering you may take as tour booty, and you may use this plunder of your enemies which the Lord, your God, has given you.

    Genesis 1:12

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

these are the quotes you are using to say Jesus promoted slavery? i must admit i was a little bit worried that i might have overlooked something when you mentioned slaves and the bible. i am greatly relieved this is what you chose as your proof Jesus promoted slavery. these are extremly weak, and even a non-believer of the bible will correctly understand these verses with a very brief and minimal understanding of the context. try harder my friend.

and dont ever call me a slave.

well your obscure verses from the first 5 books of the old teastament are a joke because when Jesus came he fulfilled the Law of Moses and gave a higher law. my meaning of that is he gave people a higher law. ie. thou shalt not commit adultery is now thou shalt not look upon a woman to lust after her.

your pale attempt at using the new teastament is even easier. (by the way just because the word slave appears in the new teastament doesnt mean Jesus advocated slavery, what a foolish idea.) Jesus is a master teacher and uses examples that his audience will readilly understand if they wish to listen. slavery was a fact of life in the Roman times, of which the Jewish people were a part during the time of Christ. (some Jews even had Roman masters, though it was not custom for Jews to own slaves at that time.) Just becuse he used the example of a slave to better help his audience understand the principle he was teaching does not mean he promoted slavery.

i must say you are usually an educated individual with an interesting point of view on most topics, yet on religion and christianity you are quite juvenile. stop wasting my time and others on this thread.

one of my favorites james 2:17-18

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and i have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and i will shew thee my faith by may works.

Its funny to hear Bible thumper say that any verse from the Bible is obscure.
And like I said this is just 3 divinely inspired teachings of dozens......I'm looking forward to you demeaning the word of God. And also to you twisting his teachings to suit your prosaic beliefs.

This is hardly the board for this, bio. Too many people here are intent on attacking religion any & every chance they get... all you'll get is ridicule, as you've already seen.

A religious person is not necessarily a Bible thumper. Too few people actually practice what they preach & when they do, they're branded a fanatic. Being religious doesn't necessarily make you a fanatic.

im willing to openly talk about all subjects, and im well aware of the intent of foreman and others. yet it doesnt change my belief in the bible or Christ. and those who look at this thread will see the truth of what is being posted. im also trying to add to the original intent of this thread by sharing some of my favorites from the bible. i have no need to twist or distort the bible or its teachings, the truth is evident of itself. to those who wish to understand.

Don't change the subject.....this isn't Fox news.....you have three Bible quotes ( that you so disrespectfully call obscure) to explain.

I understand. It never threatens my beliefs either, but it is occasionally offensive when something very important to me is belittled & mocked maliciously. I try not to get involved in most of the religious threads now.. occasionally I still do...
