    Wireless Networks

I just upgraded my wireless network in my house from D-Link to Netgear. this is my first time using any wireless products from Netgear but installation was a breeze. great range with the PC card even with WPA-PSK security enabled. the wireless router WGR614, PC card WG511, PCI adapter WG311 with rebates were like $150 all together

I see linksys as OK for home stuff...

But I think the Netgear stuff is a little more stable
And can be used in a corporate type enviroment
where the products really see some abuse,
and Have to perform all the time

Question, I have linksys throughout my house (split-story). It's wireless, I moved the computer downstairs, but the router is still upstairs, on a seperate computer. Now on the downstairs computer, the connection is never "excellent" or running like it useta be, and once in a while disconnects. Any suggestions?

Try and changed the channel on the router. You may have a phone or something interfering with the signal.

I need to think about upG'ing mine now that my new notebook is .11G I actually want something with a shorter range so I don't have to worry about my neighbors hacking my waves.

Just make sure to use encryption of some sort limit to only known MAC addresses, and not broadcast your SSID.

Even then your wireless can still be hacked.

you can get another access point and use it in repeater mode to extend the range of the RF signal

Believe me I have it locked down tighter than Hilary Clinton's vagina during Billie's doomsday's. I also use AirSnare
to log any unwanted activity on my W-Lan but if I can limit the range to just inside of my yard then all is better.
