Since my opinion of this constantly changes for today I will pick:

Pali Gap - Jimi Hendrix

Midnight Lightning is getting pretty close right now, man the imagery is so awesome in that song Jimi has a way with words. Like in Bold as Love when he sings "Queen jealousy, envy waits behind him her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground" I can see this Queen in a windblown gown the bottom of which is flapping and whipping at the ground like the fingers of a green flame clawing at the ground.

MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING
FLASHING ALL AROUND ME
LORD, SEE IT FLASHIN' ALL AROUND THE TREES
SEE IT FLASHIN' ON MY LOVE AND ME
WAKE UP MY SWEET DARLIN'
AND SEE THE LIGHT UPON YOUR EYES
BLUE LIGHT FLASHIN'
SHADOW'S LEAPIN' CHURCH BELLS RING MADE AGAINST THE NIGHT

HEY MY LOVE PLEASE STAND UP AND WATCH ME
MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING FLASHIN'
FLASHIN' ALL AROUND MY COUNTRY HOUSE
THUNDER FLASHIN'
SEE WHERE THE FIELDS LIE ON OUR TREE IN OUR LITTLE DREAM

Whitney houston signing the Star spangled Banner at the super bowl 25 in 1991 wasn't bad. It's not my favorite song but can't think of the name of the song I like best

Whiney singing

Jimi playing Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock is better cause he put his own spin on it as to the way things were and are in America.

I thought of it...

House of the rising sun by the Animals

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

------ organ solo ------

Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
Tough

"Prince, Fishbone, NWA...
These are the things that I like to play...
Mr Bungle so very cool, so don't be an ignorant fool...
There's so much music for you to choose...
So don't just be a metal dude
It's cool fool!"

Don't really like em. PLus, IMO, they never real came out with a hit song.
Kudos to the Chili Peppers for merging funk and rock, and Metallica are pretty great as well.
