You know, anytime that an event that is as devistating as Hurricane Katrina happens anywhere else in the world, the US is all over it, giving unlimited financial aid and resources to get those involved through it.

AMAZINGLY enough, I haven't heard ONE thing from another world leader about their condolences (I'm not saying there hasn't been, I just am not aware of it).

To you guys near the Gulf Coast: my prayers are with you. Hang in there.

Canada has been in contact and is sending people and supplies as soon as the u.s. gives us their ok. Be assured we give our condolences to the people who have gone through this horrible time.

I just can't believe theres not an influx of help yet. These people need food, water, shelter, help, help and more help. It's as if the nation is standing there in shock. I couldn't believe my ears while eating dinner they were interviewing a Nurse at one of the hospitals and her voice was trembling so much as she described how patients were lying in piles of their own feces and urine, nurses are collapsing left and right and need IV's, etc. If I could escape I certainly would go.

Brazil is a very good friend of US and in calamities that happened in the past we gave our help, even if it was small. It wont be different this time.
I hope everything goes well.

Btw, tv should show more of the damage, at least from CNN we only see water and everything calm. If the world saw what is really happening, the response would be much faster.

The Bush administration significantly cut the budget and resources for this area recently when dealing with emergencies and natural disasters.

Who's getting funding and aid?

Ask: former Baath party members, and AWOLS in the new iraqi government army.

Food and water and reconstruction supplies: ask the Iraqis.

Maybe we should have the Iraqis actually send all of the aid over the last 2 1/2 years back.....

my daughter called me from my dads last night when the news was on. she was upset by what she saw. she said "mom, even old people with alzheimers are homeless n standing on this bridge... one man couldn't take it anymore n he jumped..." i keep thinking he must have lost family to be that despondent... friggin sad. if you pray say a prayer for the victims and the people traveling to the area to help.

It may depend on what news channel you are watching. The local media is more focussed on local and national news rather than international.
