Google Earth...

will rock your socks off!

http://earth.google.com/

Earlier today I used it to travel up the river that my family sometimes goes to in Canada and check out all the various locations we visit.. and whats even cooler is the terrain is 3D!

I think I might have posted this in the whoring thread, but I figure its worth spreading to everyone that isn't a regular in there. I suggest using it when planning your next vacation to get a good idea of where you're going to be and what there is to do in the area!

Note: I'm not in any way affiliated with Google. I just think some of their products are great.

Ummm, yeah, cause it uses satellite images. Sooo... you know, we haven't had much reason to take detailed satellite images of say, every cornfield in Iowa

It has the cool stuff, and the rugged outdoors, even though its not as detailed, it does show the terrain mapping which is sweet.

It's a smoother running form of google maps, I like that I can spin the image so it's oriented in a way that seems more familiar to me.

Hey who's jeep is that parked in front of my house?

"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Natures inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that."

Sorry V, that is completely different than Google Earth. At least from what I can see.

Google Earth show the world and you pan around and zoom real time, and you can change the angle and see terrain features and stuff.

I'll show you what I mean.

I downloaded it on my comp at work, its great. Its always taking up one of my screens, works great in conjunction with atlases and stuff. Just a fun toy too.

For example, the Grand Canyon in 3D.

I just wish I could figure out how to get rid of those damn green rectangles and the I's.

There does seem to be a Keyhole community for it though
