How I see the NOLA situation..tell me where I am wrong.

OK, here is how I see the situation in NOLA. I'd like to be told where I am wrong and why. To the relentless Bush-bashers, I'd like more than your standard "Bush is an idiot" or "Bush is incompentent" chanting.
  1. The government's response was inexcusible. However, the blame here starts with the local and state officials who failed to adequately plan. Sure, the blame goes all the way up to Bush. His reaction was horrible. I think I saw him playing a guitar at one point. The economics of NOLA are such that the poorer you are, the lower you live (elevation.) Many of these people cannot afford to leave. Someone should have planned for this. This situation was not unforeseen. In fact, they even had days to get ready for it.
  2. Many people decided to stay. To these people I want to ask "'What part of there is a big fucking storm coming, get out' did you not understand?" This is a fair question.
  3. It is fair to wonder whether rebuilding NO is wise.
  4. Many did not have flood insurance and will not be reimbursed for their loss via insurance. THe Feds will have to step in. Why should my tax dollars go to fund a loss b/c someone failed to secure insurance?
  5. The gov's failures have nothing to do with race or economics. The goverment simply proved that there is very little it does well. Sure they failed, but lets not play the race card.
  6. The state of LA deserves serious heat for not making the levees stronger. They are blaming the Feds but why are the NO levees a Federal responsibility?
  7. This sitaution has damaged race relations. Many blacks will use it make the point that whites don't care if they suffer or not. Some whites will use the looting and thuggery to justify their bigotry.
There you have...rip me to shred

That new agency FEMA failed in my opinion and unfortunatly N.O. does not have a leader like we had in N.Y. in Ex mayor Guiliani when the WTC came down, he was the real leader that day, not the Governor nor the President.
  2. Many people decided to stay. To these people I want to ask "'What part of there is a big fucking storm coming, get out' did you not understand?" This is a fair question.

Some oldtimers are like that, didn't you notice a lot eldery and handicap folks stood behind? That's all they have, besides how many times were we warned of a storm or even an earthquake is coming. Look at how many people live by the San Adreas fault. I can't even count how many members we have living there.
Some even stood behind to protect their homes from looters.

  3. It is fair to wonder whether rebuilding NO is wise.

That would be a foolish waste of money. They say that in the future that area will no longer exist due to global warming.
  4. Many did not have flood insurance and will not be reimbursed for their loss via insurance. THe Feds will have to step in. Why should my tax dollars go to fund a loss b/c someone failed to secure insurance?

The government will waste on some stupid crap anyway.
  5. The gov's failures have nothing to do with race or economics. The goverment simply proved that there is very little it does well. Sure they failed, but lets not play the race card.

I hate when people do this, it's not always about race. THe one thing I would like to point out though is that the media likes to add fuel to the fire to sell a story.

My short and sweet response...

We are spending BILLIONS of dollars in Iraq (a war that will never end and will not be won) and this is the response to our own people right here in America?

Pathetic.

and I did not even insult Bush...my point is this country, THE USA and its people, should come first, period.

I realize that there is blame to be put on the local and state government, but the fact still remains that after this natural disaster struck, the worst ever in the history of the USA, it took the federal goverment 5 days to respond...come on, that is just sad.

The war started before the diaster its not like we made a choice to do one over the other.

Are you also mad at Kerry and Clinton who supported the war? Or are you just a Republican hater?

This is from the LA times, it seems a pretty fair article attacking both parties, and giving credit primarily to Local officials whove been very vocal about the subject BEFORE Katrina.
Id appreciate it if everyone whos placing blame read this article as theres alot of numbers in here that I havent seen anyone else put together or report so well, Its a good article and I think anyone who cares about the subject should read it(Ill admit its long, but I got through it)

Let's just say that the both parties fucked up and that this Country needs an enema.

I love this country but I follow no political parties. All politicians are just out there for there own interest.

I just can't understand why we have to be divided.

Maybe one day we will have a leader like we've had in the past.

He would never get elected
IMO at least, I think you have to be corrupt to start with to get into the presidents seat- Theres so much money in it, you'd be trampled on every little un-pc thing you've ever said.. and if you dont have the money to fight back.. bend over..

I think thats why in the last few elections people keep speaking of,"The lesser of two evils"
All that came out of the news for months was what Kerry did wrong, what Bush did wrong, what Kerry did wrong.

Thats why I voted for Badnarik, Libertariams may be irresponsible in some aspects, but the small party leaders are the few honest candidates these days.. Plus I wouldnt mind a libertarian president with a 1/2 1/2 house of dems and republicans. Only important shit would get passed, but a dream is a dream

Oh, and if any of the countries founders were to run.. theyd be considered radicals, LOL, IMHO.

  2. Many people decided to stay. To these people I want to ask "'What part of there is a big fucking storm coming, get out' did you not understand?" This is a fair question. True there are those idiots who have hurricane parties and think they'll just ride it out.
  3. It is fair to wonder whether rebuilding NO is wise. New Orleans has so much history we should never let it disappear like the Lost city of Atlantis. Sure it proves our forefathers were idiots when we built many of our big cities on swamp land(Honolulu, Houston, New Orleans, parts of New York, etc) but I feel it's a national treasure.
Sure they failed, but lets not play the race card.I feel if people would stop adressing race whether negative or postive it would stop being used as a way to win fights, certain races want to be seen as "equal" and then expect special treatment because they are of a certain race.
  6. The state of LA deserves serious heat for not making the levees stronger. They are blaming the Feds but why are the NO levees a Federal responsibility? The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built and maintain said levees.
  7. This sitaution has damaged race relations. Many blacks will use it make the point that whites don't care if they suffer or not. Some whites will use the looting and thuggery to justify their bigotry.Agreed

For any liberal this should be proof that more government responsibility is a bad thing, since they fuck up everything on a consistent basis.

That would be perfectly fine, as long as states are allowed to go around the federal government and accept foreign assistance on their own. But somehow I don't think that's the kind of state's rights conservatives are all about.

Yeah that's right, but you can't just concentrate on military! It's not like we are being in the third world war. They knew that someday there would be a big environmental disaster like it happens in the whole world year after year. The whole world is shocked that a country like the USA is not able to handle the aftermaths of an environmental disaster like this.

Generally speaking, Republicans are for smaller government.

However, the Republican currently in the White House is a spender. He spends and regulates just like you'd expect a Demoncrat.

Watch the news...we're handling it just fine.

Yes, it took too damn long but the relief effort is kicking ass now.

I read somewhere that the size of the disaster area is larger than England. Now, seriously, who can really be fully ready for such a disaster?

Foreman, the smilies you use just make things you say look more childlike, try some substance. There are liberal republicans, as Pepper said Bush spends just like a democrat would, if he had a (D) after his name I suspect yourself and Prince would like him a great deal more.

Both "parties" might be for big government in your opinion, but I'm talking about political ideology, and conservatism is for LESS government. Nothing I said was spin, you're just trying to cover your ass for looking like an idiot (Which you do quite often when it comes to anything political). The blind hatred of Bush is getting pretty damn old.

By the way, the only one spewing hate is the bush bashers, I merely try to defend the man for whom it has become popular to insult and I'm the one filled with hatred? This must be a joke.

1. insuliting someone just makes you look bad........you were wrong and ripping on me dosent change that ....not even a good attempt at spin
2. I know the Republican platform.....but we are talking about what is done, not what is written down in some book. The government grew like a weed under Reagan and I see no evidence of the Republicans trying to have a "small" government.

3. Next time try to have an argument rooted in fact rather then just some old sound bite designed to hate.

4. Calling names might work on the playground but in the real world you might try to have something intelligent to say. Its just sad top see a man with no options other than calling names .

I don;t necessarily think you are wrong..but here is what gets me pissed:

ALL of our federal emergency dollars for something of this magnitude were diverted into defense dept funding for the war in Iraq.

We should have been ready and Bushie was on his month-long 5th vacation this year.

But at the state and local levels we had massive failures. Expected out of Todays golf-playing, get-no-work-done government.

To achieve Success is certaily tough..but keeping it, much tougher!
