Thoughts on the criminal justice system.
I was wondering what you people think of the criminal justice system? I think it is a joke. Not for the "innocent until proven guilty" policy or the court system itself, but the fact that criminals continue to make violent acts, the courts slap them on the wrist and send them back out into the world to commit more acts of violence. Then the politicians debate on how they can reduce crime. They gripe about how much money it takes to house criminals. And yet they give them TV, workout facilities, free food, let them play basketball. To most criminals this is a better life than they have at home, so why not commit a crime, and get a "vacation" so to speak.
I hate politics, but if I had to be involved in it, I would take up this cause for sure. I know some parts of the country are reducing crime, but since I moved to L.A. all I see is crime on the news, and the majority turns out to be repeat offenders. |

That is a good question. I would rather see it going to welfare than to criminals. At least SOME of the people on welfare are actually trying to make a living instead of robbing people and businesses for money, and sometimes killing innocent people in the process.

I think we need to understand how and why criminals behave the way they do. Outcasting them is not the answer and usually bring us more problems.
Sure, some of them are beyond recovery but locking somebody for years and giving them nothing to do will only create a really bored and mad person. |

prison should be more like a trade school and they get a job after and a percentage goes back to the prison.

I havent seen dg806 in a while, he usually know how to express my opinion better than I can on this subject
Repeat offenders are definitely one of the largest problems; I watched one guy absolutely pummel some guy in a pizza shop because his girlfriend(the girlfriend of the guy who did the pummeling) cut in front of somebody, and the guy she cut was on the phone; he made some comment to his girlfriend that he would take longer to get home because someone just cut him.. well the girl went off on him, when he hung up and started talking back the boyfriend(BIG MOTHER FUCKER!) walks in and just hits him a few times, drags him around a little and leaves... This guy had just gotten out of prison like a week ago.. We need to define some sort of point system, higher offenses earn higher points. Once you earn like 100 points, you're in for life. Perhaps some sort of human decency class for people to get a few points removed from their record, and like 1 point removed per year with no offenses or something; I dunno Im talking out me arse here. Also we need to make prison suck. If I was stuck in South Africa, Id be searching for a way to get in US prison. Id join the Taliban or something, claim to have information and,"get caught" so they'll put me in Gitmo and force me to listen to loud rap music among other torture techniques. For the people in for life, they need no amenities.. the people who will be coming back out.. they should take away most of theirs, the food should be the most economical food possible, ad with the money saved from the two, they should implement and require attendance to human decency courses(This for those people who think prison should rehabilitate criminals) Also, we need a,"scared straight" program for like the last week of one's imprisonment, so they dont bring any homosexual tendencies with them out of,"The poky" Last thing we need is a bunch of gay,"hardened criminals" running around ![]() |

That aside,I think theres just too many reasons that people commit crimes, some of which society cant fix. I dont believe in sending people to prison as punishment, rather, I believe in sending people to prison as an example, in hopes of detouring others. In that scenario your save not only a criminal, but their victim(s) as well. |

Some people like to point out that China has a smaller prison population than the US and this is a wrong.
They're right: we should kill more of the prisoners like China does rather than let them live. How many murderers are now getting three hots and a cot on the taxpayers expense? |

Bill Hicks on England making Australia a prison:
"Let´s see if we understand this, you keep the shitty weather and the shitty food, we will get the great barrier of reefs and lobsters the size of canoes. I´m Jack The Ripper! No, I´m Jack The Ripper! " |

I meant more along the lines that they should work while in prison, to pay for: their own imprisonment, and preferably their court, and law enforcement expenses to prosecute them, as well. Of course this could never work in the US. Prisoners would just hire a lawyer to help them declare bankruptcy, then when they get out, pocket the money they made while in prison, lol. Also, I was thinking the percentage that goes back to the prison should be like 95+, but until its a bill up for law, it doesnt really matter ![]() |

The problem I see is basically what was stated earlier. There is no punishment for the crimes. You have to make it not worth their time to do it. Until you do, they will continue to do whatever it is they are doing. With judges and lawyers being buddies and doing each other favors in court, these people spend no time in jail. The guy that did all the shooting Friday night has been out of jail less than 1 year and already has 23 drug charges pending!! Hell, after the 1st or 2nd additional charge, he should be held without bail. But you see what is happening. He is loose and still commiting crimes. The only way you can control it is to have more officers on the streets than criminals and have more firepower than they do. Sad! |
