everything we do is selfish, just as you said helping someone has a selfish ulterior motive, it makes you feel good.

Its definiltey selfish in some ways. Ever see that episode of Friends where Pheobe tries to do something truely selfless, but cant because it always makes her feel good?

But when you disarm them, you at once offend them by showing that you distrust them, either for cowardice or for want of loyalty, and either of these opinions breeds hatred against you.

About the helping, is it because we look good being good and it feeds our ego because we do these preconvceived notions of goodness or because it is a natural instinct and we associate with the people we are helping like they are ourselves in a different scenario?

Im glad to SEE you have embraced that "forbidden word" and no longer fear being OUTCAST by christians for how you FEEL. Being TRUE with yourself is the FIRST step to OPEN MINDEDNESS.
I was seaching ironmagazineforums.com for "REALLY gay" and this thread popped up. Im glad YOU like Friends, I think its FULL of variation, and variety. If you would LIKE, I can send you the entire SERIES on DVD with 480 hours of extra footage. Ill also send you a VERY informative video on AUTOFALLATIO that everyone should see! Being with a MAN you love is not always easy and you MUST LOVE yourself first.

Send me your address,

This is a post ASSPUNCTURE would have been proud of. You kind of sound like him actually

I was trying for John H. but Ill settle for ASSPUNCTURE

On subject though, I found a way to help people without being selfish.. do it on accident!
Like, if a drunk driver were flying down the road, and would have smashed into a car pulling out of the gas station killing the person inside... But you ran the red light and instead he hits you and kills and/or badly mangles whats left of your body, then you would have helped that person and not have done it selfishly..
Now the person pulling out of the gas station who saw the whole thing will probably speed off while you bleed to death so they dont have to sit around for the cops for 3 hours and see/smell your blood and guts.

The moral of the story is, helping everyone is selfish.. if you honestly want to help somebody without doing it for yourself, dont help anybody. Eventually your opportunity will come.

Since being selfish is being concerned only for your self, then your activity was not selfish. If, in fact, your goal was to truly help that person.

Then that is a good thing, you are rewarded for helping them by feeling good about it and maybe earning someone who will watch your back or help you next time.

If you do it for glory, then you do it out of greed not good nature.

The Dali Lama (sp?) said that that purpose of life is to be happy. To be truly happy you need to be selfish. So when does selfishness becomes a virtue? I believe that informed and self-aware selfishness is a virtue. Dig deep, what really makes you happy?
