Katrina Aftermath

I realize that Rita is the focus of our attention but here's a few first-hand photos I took over the past few days.

Aside from the damage, the one thing that still disturbs me is the absense of people. Notice all the shots I am in. Normally you would see me surrounded by hundreds of tourists and residents. But not now

Yes, I was activated for the rescue/relief mission.

No, it's not a stupid question... The reason we have net access is because the building we aquired has it restored. We were able to tap into it and utilize the resource. we also have a satalite communications array that affords us net access but the land-line is much quicker.

We're riding it out. We've reinforced our position and are awaiting Rita's arrival. Afterwardswe will deploy immediate assets to assist the relief workers who remain. We're not running from this one.

9 feet above sea level. Plus 6 stories in the building next door if we need to elevate.

After that we raid bar, pull the tubes out of our tires and pretend we're on a float trip.

Man, those people parked their boats on land.. Idiots!

I wish you hadnt taken the Hustler and Larry Flynt photo.. I heard earlier that a strip club was open in that area.. I wanted to photoshop one of your earlier pics to have you ordering people to restore the strip club.

It wouldnt be nearly as funny now

One advantage you guys have though if it hits.. You know which buildings can survive a cat 5 hurricane

There is one picture I didn't post before. My partner and I decided it was necessary to "clear and enter" the "barely Legal" club to see if it was empty. Unfortunately, it was.

according to cnn 10% of the city remains under water. the plan/hope was for that to be solved by next week. of course that's without Rita breaking any levees etc. and apparently there's real concern that it won't take much for it to flood again (even without the direct hit)

The downtown and metro areas are dry. There are still areas underwater. These photos were taken just yesterday at 3:00PM when we conducted an aerial recon of the city.

8-10 feet of water in the 9th ward this morning. They are waiting for the winds to die down to start dropping sand bags again.

We're still here!! Overall the damage from Rita was quite minimal considering all the excitement that preceded her arrival.

All we really saw here were moderate winds and heavy rains. We had a few power-lines snap and transformers blow bu aside from that, it is business as usual here for us.

Frankly, the rain was a welcomed relief as it has really helped to wash away a great deal of the filth and smell on the streets.

Flooding in the 9th Ward is all we are hearing. That's way out of my A.O. Our areas are still dry and holding.

The small town of Chalmette with a population of just over 32k is a complete loss. Katrina wiped out about 90%. Rita's flooding has pretty much finished the job
