Good research and I like that song.

You've probably been hearing it constantly, but do you know who wrote it and what event inspired it?
"the Great Mississippi flood of 1927 -- which inspired Memphis Minnie to write one of Led Zeppelin's best songs -- broke levees from St. Louis to New Orleans and turned most of the Delta country of western Mississippi (the state, not the river) into an inland sea. Thousands died, many of them African-American sharecroppers rounded up at gunpoint and set to work shoring up the levees. When the rainsoaked barriers finally gave way, hundreds of them, many chainganged together like convicts, were swept to their deaths."
This was also the catalyst that spread Jazz and Blues from New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta out to the rest of the Country particularly Chicago when the homeless migrated to those cities not wanting to ever go back to such a flood prone area. That basically spawned a whole musical revolution.
Maybe these past events will give our nation another cultural stir? Or remember that 2 years later 1929 the stock market crashed![]()
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I think they "Zep" wrote and made the song to fill their pocketbooks. If they gave a fuck about the peoples who suffered they would have given all the money to charities that would help them, or their descendants.
I like music too but don't lose sight of the fact that the world of rock and roll, indeed the entire entertainment industry, is full of nothing but selfish, greedy, drugged up, cocksuckers with narcissistic personalty disorders...........Uncle Rich..........![]()

I don't think recent events will affect anything culturally.Originally Posted by maniclion
As for the stock market the economy and fianancial markets are much more sophisticated than in 1929.
The people that jumped to their deaths in 1929 put way too much of their holding into margins. When the margin call came, that was it.
Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.

Im a huge fan of Springsteen. And an even bigger fan of Zep and I honor them as great musicians. I do not, however, consider them social heros, great orators, or seer's. I enjoy the music and thats the end of it.
You see Im one of those lunatics that actually live the words in the Constitution and think everyone is equal. I have more repsect for the average working person then all of these rich and famous put together. Springsteen would get a moving citation from me. A working guy hurrying to work to feed his family would get a pass.........Uncle Rich.................![]()
