    The Nukes in Rita's Path

Who knows if the workers at the plants will stay to try to prevent problems?

The Reactor Containment Buildings are 200-foot domes. The plant site is an official wildlife area providing habitat for several threatened species, including bald eagles, peregrine falcons, white-tailed hawks and alligators. (Source: STP web site.)
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

These are the same experts who say a 747 flown into a reactor housing wont be able to breech the exterior right? Or an accident isn't possible? I wonder, were they the same experts that said airplanes flying into skyscrapers couldn't bring them down?

Nuclear energy is a bad bet. Such a catastrophic event would have hemispheric, indeed worldwide, impact.

having worked at a nuclear power plant i know that article is a bunch of shit. their are absolutely no spent fuel pools where a truck is going to be lifted up and thrown into one. Hell, spent fuel pools are inside the reactor builing. spent fuel is kept there for multiple years until it can safely be placed in dry storage casks and brought outside. the person writing this article has absolutely no knowelege of the nuclear industry in this country and is writing with clearly no background information.

the safest place in the path of that huricane is at a nuclear power plant. it will weather the storm with no worries and come back on-line as soon as the storm blows over.

and nuclear power is the answer to our energy needs for the forseable future. do you think wind, solar, or fossil fuels will be able to meet the growing energy demands?

this is not the first huricane to hit the south and i dont remember reading anything about damaged nuclear power plants in the past.
