It was ok but I was more fascinated by Boxing and grappling ( judo) plus that combo is the best for self defense IMO.

Jiu Jitsu was AWESOME. I'd come home everyday with a swollen neck, black eyes and a few times I broke a finger I had my ass handed to me almost every class by these little guys LOL. Had to decide between that and lifting though because it really inflamed my tendonitis.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

Yeah exactly, and there is always a chance the fight goes to the ground, in which case you are in trouble if you don't know what your doing. A guy in who takes classes with me also has a vale tudo striking class one day a week--which is his crazy mix of boxing and kicking. We also do takedowns with an emphisis on judo technique.

Sure its important, but you can't fight 5 guys on the ground. Standup first, ground last.

With mutiple people, the rules change. If that is the situation, I highly doubt, if they have some skills, that anything is going to stop them all. This is why you improvise with the nearest object that can be used as a weapon.

With Muay Thai, your body is your weapon. It was developed by traveling people from China who later occupied Siam, now Thailand, by and for those who could not afford weapons or worried about losing them in combat.

It would be more difficult for you to lose an arm than to run out of arrows, or bullets. Most of us keep our arms, elbows, knees and feets in fights. If not you are probably already dead.

When there is no weapon, become the weapon. And again ground fighting is great, but not against 6 guys kicking you in the ribs while you are playing Scooby Doo.

This is where we differ on opinions. You look for that weapon and I will run. This aint no Bruce lee movie, 5 guys will kick your ass 99.9% of the time even if you are a tough SOB who fights every day.

Yes, that is the other option. If you can't escape, then you may need to find a weapon though. But, if you can run, great.

If you are cornered with 5 guys around you, you probably have 20 square feet of space to work within. Unless you are really lucky, there is not going to be a good weapon within that 20 square feet, i.e. you are in a dump or something. And what you would be doing there (looking for a carburator at Pick Your Parts??) I dont know.

    Yup -

The twenty-somethings at work were discussing bar brawls and such...

I walked in to the conversation, and they asked me what I would do
if 4-5 guys wanted to kick my ass in a parking lot...

    Take the biggest one first...

Try to get two at the same time???...

Be a man and take the beat down??? -

Fuck all that, I will just RUN!
