Hmmm...there was just a post about this.
As far as anything near central park is concerned it's going to cost you some good money.

Oh......hmmmm, well then if you plan on staying by central park then I would suggest staying at the lower part of central park. In the middle it's ok but at the top most of central park I don't think there is anything worthwhile.

If you have money the Hilton is right across the street from central park.
    Great scenery.

Times square has changed but it's still rough. You have to be careful with the riff raff.

    There nothing like local knowledge!

I like the look of the Hilton and the Trump hotel looks nice.

Why does you avatar say "pumping Iain"? Do you know IM's Iaindaniel? Are you going to New York as a stop on your route to stalk him?
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I stay in hostels in Manhatten, because I can spend more on entertainment, and I'm not going to be in my hotel room in NYC anyway. I'm going to be walking the neighborhoods and playing.
