    Sorry, election time phantom pains.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

President of Mexico celebrates magazines with publishers

The close of the 2nd FIPP Ibero-Americano Conference

The President of Mexico, Vicente Fox Quezada, praised the magazine industry and the valuable services they provide, in a well-received closing speech for the 2nd FIPP Ibero-Americano Conference in Mexico City. More than 300 publishing executives from around the world gathered at the Camino Real Hotel to hear the President‘s comments.

"One of the greatest challenges for publishers and the government alike, is to make people read more", said President Fox, adding: "Reading is a great instrument for a country‘s development and freedom. As magazine publishers, you have much to contribute. You can generate a thirst and taste for reading among millions of people."

The President‘s comments reiterated those of Roberto Civita, chairman and editor-in-chief of Grupo Abril in Brazil, who summoned publishers at the conference to join the battle for education. Said Civita: "Together, with our colleagues in newspapers, radio and television, we are collectively responsible to inform, stimulate and shape a nation‘s fabric. We must defend all our freedoms to help our readers live better lives and to contribute towards developing more enlightened and developed societies."

Also speaking in the opening keynote session was Emilio Azcarraga Jean, president and ceo of Grupo Televisa in Mexico who welcomed the opportunity for the publishers in Latin America and the Iberian peninsular to share and support their cultures, noting: "Latin America alone represents a massive market made up of some 520 million people all speaking one of two languages.

The 2nd FIPP Ibero-Americano Conference was organised by the International Federation of the Periodical Press (FIPP) and the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Editorial Mexicana (CANIEM) in association with The Federation of Latin American Publishers (FLAPP). Held in Mexico City, on 18-20 January, the event focused on magazine publishing and possible areas for synergy in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries.
