When I was in college I could dunk a basketball...........barely, on the right day. I'm 5' 10". Now I'm an overweight 30 something. One of my goals is to be able to do it again. My question has three parts: Can you do it; if so, how tall are you; have squats helped you achieve this if you couldn't before?

Was able to in high school, 5'10 back then jsut under 6 flat now, no squats weren't part of my training regimen. I did do plyometrics, it's possible the power thrusts on the tilted sled helped a bit.

Fuck no, White men can't jump.
I am a fat assed 39 year old football and basketball coach who can still dunk! Only one handed now though. I am 6"0 tall and weigh 190lbs.

I was on high jump in HS (@ 5'10) and could dunk through my early 20's...
My BW was any where from 130-165 back then...
Now I am 215 (@ 6'0) and have major squat strength compared to then, but
can only get my wrist to break over the rim

I could dunk, haven't tried in yrs though!

What excersizes can you do to improve your vertical?
I wasnt even able to touch rim but after doing heavy leg exersized like squats and leg extentions I can.
um, jump!Originally Posted by CancerNV

In high school I was 6'5" and could almost get my elbow at the rim (about an inch short). Never did squats, just played basketball for years and did a machine called the SuperCat for a while. My vertical leap was 36" which is good for a white guy. Unfortunately now at I can barely dunk on a good day. But I have gained 70lbs since my basketball days in high school and none of which is leg muscle.
If you want to get your dunking ability back, jump, and jump some more. High explosive powerful jumps is what you need to do.

I can barely at slightly under 6'0. Squats helps a little.

Tough, think back to when you were a kid. Did they have trampolines during the great depression? They are fun as shit to jump on, and it doesn't burn when you pee afterwards. I used to have one, and jumped on it all the time, but now I'm to heavy and hit the ground when i jump.Originally Posted by Tough Old Man

That's funny cause one time I went to the BET forums where they were debating reparations and told them I want my fair share because I was 1/8th African American, as well as a small fraction Native American. Then I went into the displaced mistreated farmers during the Dust Bowl of which was my fathers great-grand father and how they moved to mine lead and coal in Missouri. I also touched on my Irish heritage and how my great-grandfather had probably been dogged in the East and moved West only to be dogged as a wage-slave working on laying railroad tracks. Boy did that start some shit, in fact the next day I went back and the thread was closed.Originally Posted by gococksDJS

Why do you call bullshit on that? 5'10" and being able to dunk isn't out of the question.Originally Posted by ForemanRules

At 5'5" I can almost touch the rim.
