I just heard 3 million people died there in the 50s? Wtf? Maybe it is a well known thing in US but I usually hear only about the two World Wars and Vietnam.
Are people in America unware of the facts of this war or it is just me that doesnt know?
Maybe it is because I never saw a movie about it or a video game..![]()

So, are you American? I thought that you were a native of Brazil, living in Brazil.Originally Posted by Vieope
The total number of death in Korea isn't really known. The general consensus was about 2.8 million, of which only 34,000 or so were Americans. Not all of the deaths related to the Korean War happened directly in the war. Many people were killed when they ran from the war and into the Khmer Rouge, for example.

I was just wondering why we dont hear much about it here and I searched on google and the pages usually say the "forgotten war" and I dont know why it is mentioned like that.
Maybe it was a short war? A few months?

You said " Are people in America unware of the facts of this war or it is just me that doesnt know?" and " Maybe it is because I never saw a movie about it or a video game...", when taken together are rather accusatory, which would require that you knew Americas well enough to make such a statement. So I had to assume that you were either an American or lived here from a length of time.Originally Posted by Vieope
The US was only actively involved for about a year (June 1950 to June 1951). And the US government did a good job of keeping it out of main stream news sources.
Oh I never meant in a accusatory way..I was including people from here together with americans in the group of the unaware people. I didnt even knew US was involved with it, I thought it was only between Japan, China and Russia or some of those countries over there.Originally Posted by cfs3
I never heard of this war before. I thought it was only a small thing that lead to the division of the country, not really a war.

You've never watched M*A*S*H?

not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads

but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012
I saw the first episode and I didnt like it very much. Isnt it made by Robert Altman?Originally Posted by maniclion

Read up on the Khemer Rouge. That was the worst part of the Korean War, because it wasn't a war, it was a slaughter.Originally Posted by Vieope

What does the Cambodian Khmer Rouge have to do with Korean War Deaths?Originally Posted by cfs3

did you miss the comment about M*A*S*H*? that was set during the korean war. or the fact Red Foreman is a korean war veteran on the tv show that 70's show? and i feel it was hardly forgotten by americans. ive always read that it was 53000 US deaths but i could be wrong. we even had a few generals who thought we should keep going until we got to beijeng. things were going well for us untill the chinese felt they could throw more men at us than we had bullets. the human wave attacks they threw at us were complete slaughters, kind of like what the russians did at stalingrad in the begining of the movie Enemy at the Gates.Originally Posted by Vieope

Oh so what, now you can draw all conclusions from what I ate in the past hour, sheesh it never stops does it?Originally Posted by cfs3

So, you don't think cultured yogurt tastes good?

It's good alright, but that you had the precognition that I thought it was delicious is not good, are you a clairvoyant or have you been studying my habits?Originally Posted by cfs3
