Paying your bills on time. Keep a low to average debt to income ratio. Keeping your credit active but not taking it overboard.

Having good credit goes a long way!

yup. 650-675 is where I see most of the borrowers I deal with. I love it when I get someone with a 750 or higher FICO score. it makes getting them qualified for a loan that much faster. plus I get a lender rebate for A paper loans !

We recently bought a new house and both of use have credit scores that exceed 800. The things that ding you are late payments, frequent credit checks or not enough time between credit checks(i.e. new cell phone accounts, anything that requires a credit check), too many credit cards (don't get caught in the department store credit card trick), too high of a balance on credit cards, . The best way to maintain good credit is to use only one type of credit card and make sure all payments are made on time. If you aren't using a card that you have, cancel it so it won't appear on your report.

good idea I always stayed away from credit cards and its unusual to see a 25year old w/o a credit card but it kept me debt free... currently I have no debt (not even student loans-- full scholarships own!)

Gonna get ONE credit card and use it...

    Whats better tho?

get a card with say $300.00 and use $200 and make minimum payments for say 10months.. Or pay off $200.00 like b4 the minimum payment is due?? I heard all they wanna see is you make payments on time.. so doing the first scenario should be best for boosint credit!! I should be over 700 after my second issue is disputed

    Fair Issacs yep.

Its not just that you make payments on time, but by how much each payment is vs the actual total on your card. The advice I have read is to not neccessarily pay off 100% every month either (yes I'm serious), but the majority of it. Supposedly the magic number of credit cards is 2-3, I carry only two and try to use them when I can and then pay them off.

We charge at least $2k on our credit cards every month but also pay them off in full every month. It gives you the benefits of having a card but you don't have to pay any interest.

actually, having a crest card with a higher limit is better. Do not run it up. (say more than 30%) and keep it paid down.
if u have a 300 $$ card and have 200$$ on it, it is nearly maxed out. Looks better tohave a 1000$$ card and have 200$$ on it..and then keep paying it on time.
Some things I am working on, is using a CC to pay for things I am already buying anyway: utilities, gas, food, etc. Then pay that balance off. It revolves debt faster and builds credit. U have to sped the $$ anyway. Might as well make it work for you.

Cool! Man you gotta keep an eye on your credit. I wish I did at 21ish. So the trick is less than 2 creditcards and making payments on time as opposed to paying in full

There are many ways to keep it high and raise it, within a matter of months..

1.First make sure you pay all your bills on time'

    2. Watch you income to debit ratio

    3. Make sure you don't have too much revoling credit even if there are no balances or low.

    4. Make sure you don't open store credit credit cards..i.e Macys, target etc

    5. Don't close to many accounts at once.
