Enormous Head, Stunning Weight Loss: Oprah Latest Big Name Linked to Steroids
As the steroids scandal continues to spiral out of control, more and more big names are getting implicated as past users. Today the witch hunt extended from sports to the entertainment world with billionaire talk show host Oprah Winfrey being accused of using steroids.
An article in today’s “Chicago Sun-Times” claims Winfrey has long used illegal steroids as a means to get in shape and boost her energy for her hectic lifestyle.
“An almost comically large head, wild swings in weight over the years with a noticeably extreme drop in weight of late, a limitless well of energy, her participation in a marathon in the past – all the earmarks of a serial steroids user are there,” reads a paragraph in the story penned by Mark Meyerson, an investigative reporter for the “Sun-Times.” “Not only has Oprah taken steroids, but many signs point to her being at the forefront of their expansion.”
The article reports Winfrey, based in Chicago, introduced steroids to former Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa in 1994 after she completed the New York Marathon. The piece also claims her fiancé, Stedman Graham, a former editor of ‘Sport’ magazine, used his contacts to help Winfrey provide steroids to athletes.
“Sosa went from 25 home runs in 1994 to 36, then 40, 36 and then 66 in 1998,” reads the article. “Winfrey and Sosa circulated in the same affluent circles in Chicago, and numerous sources say she introduced him to the benefits of the illegal performance enhancers.”
If the story is true, it would explain to many how Winfrey – an unathletic tub of goo – would suddenly be able to run 26 miles at age 40 in less than four hours and thirty minutes, as she did at the ’94 New York Marathon.
“It’s long been rumored that Winfrey was aided by substances, but now there are some who are willing to confirm it, albeit off the record,” reports the ‘Sun-Times’ article.
The article goes on to imply that Winfrey has dropped a significant amount of weight in the last few months – a la Jason Giambi and Ivan Rodriguez – as the heat of the steroids and BALCO investigation grows, fearful she may be implicated in the scandal and have her empire ripped away from her.
“Oprah is doing everything possible to cover her tracks from the past few years,” said a source close to her. “She knows she would be a huge name for federal investigators to get in this case, and she doesn’t want to leave them any openings.”
But federal prosecutors are reportedly already investigating her involvement in the scandal, and have seized numerous items from her home and studio, including wigs and hats that show a head size variance from 7 5/8 to 11 1/8.
“Obviously there’s been some head expansion there that is abnormal for a women in her forties and fifties,” said a source within the prosecutor’s office. “It’s more than a bit suspicious. If she’s involved in this in any way, she will be prosecuted.”
Winfrey and her publicist refused to comment on the story, only to say that an upcoming show will focus on the negative aspects of steroids use.
