    Travel Agency for a Cruise?

I don't have a clue where to start shopping for a cruise. Any suggestions?

www.cruise.com has some great deals but they only offer certain destinations which may not be where you want to go. otherwise just go through the cruise line itself.

holland is a great cruise line. if you do make plans, make sure to get a verandah. nothing beats it.

booking a cruise too early will ensure you are paying the maximum price. cruise companies will typically lower the price as the departure date gets closer provided they are not selling out. if you just want to take a cruise and dont really care about the destination, cruise.com is definately the place to go.

Travel Agents are kind of out these days. Just search a bit on the net and you'll find more options and better prices.

It will be my girlfriend and I (not swingers). We are in Texas, so probably looking at the Bahamas or Caribbean. Leaving from Florida is no problem. Solid advice. Keep it coming...

I went on a cruise called : Splendour of the Seas, its a Royal Carribean Cruise...it was pretty decent, but I know they have a larger cruise liner in the carribean, which even has a ice rink in it...anyway the quality of food/entertainment/Casino..was all pretty good quality

During the Olympics I stayed on a ship called the "Silver Wind" of the Silver Seas line I think it was; fantastic ship, great staff, wonderful cruise overall. We went from the Port of Piraeus in Athens, Greece to Italy--not long, but we were in port at both for awhile with a stop at Corfu in the middle.

Damn balconies cost a fortune! It has to be the week of starting May 21st, because I've already arranged with her employer to have that week off. I have my eye on this one:

    Carnival Cruise Lines-Carnival Conquest
Galveston, Montego Bay, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Galveston

    4 departure dates: May 7, 14, 21, 28 2006

I can't wait until the last minute for deals, though. It has to be that week. I hope I can find a middleman that can get discounts...

trust me bro, balconies are the only way to go. forget the "middle man." wait as long as you can, then go through cruise.com or the cruise line. youre going to spend some money regardless of the deals you find. we spent about $9000 on our cruise last month (gambling included.)

I'd go for the balcony, forget a tiny little window in a 180 square foot closet!

What if they book the whole ship? I would love a balcony, but with the current prices, it cost over $800 extra. Shit, the rooms that have a tiny window cost about $500 extra.

Hey Bulletproof1, you spent $9,000 on a cruise? I'd like to spend <$2K on the fair so I have money for other stuff. Thankfully, I don't gamble, but we will be doing snorkeling and other activities. I certainly don't have $9K for a cruise. I'm spending student loan money as is.

None of them over here are anywhere remotely like that, but I'm talking to Mexico/Hawaii. $800 for a balcony? Shit, whole cruise here can be under a grand for 2. How long are you going for?

yes, about $9000. but thats air, 7 days, balcony, gambling, porting, shopping, drinking, etc

if you dont want to spend any money just find a cruise that doesnt port. then you dont have to worry about passports or anything.

7 days. The cheapest room is $1,700 after port/gov fees. The cheapest balcony room is $2500. Both are 160 or 180 sq foot rooms (I forget which). Balcony is 40 sq feet. These destinations shouldn't cost more than a Mexico cruise, except it is three countries.

I definitely want to port. My girlfriend has never left the country. I've been going diving in exotic places for 15 years and practically lived in Cozumel for a while. She needs to spend time on land in these countries.

Are you shopping any of the discount sites? Sounds like you are about to pay twice over what I was seeing.

What discount sites do you recommend? I'm searching in the dark here. Other than www.cruise.com, which doesn't offer discounts, google is my only resource. I'm going to call an agency today that promises the best prices. I'd like to shop around more, though.

I've checked over ten sites and the prices are exactly the same to the dollar for the cruise I'm looking at. Last minute deals are definitely cheaper but not an option for me. I'm not going to spend the $600 required for a balcony, so it looks like I'm paying $1,600 for a closet. I don't plan to spend much time in my room, anyway. I will likely go through cruise.com, though. Many thanks, everyone.
