I used to think pits were pure evil, however when my friend got his brother's pit, that perception changed pretty quickly. The first time I encountered the dog I was sketchy, as it was barking a lot, so I just avoided it. However, next time I saw it, the dog attacked me right when I entered his house... with it's tongue. Possibly one of the friendliest and most affectionate dogs I've ever encountered, also extremely energetic. The best way I can describe it is an attention whore.

That said, I would never own one if I had a small child in my house, nor would I leave a small kid unsupervised with it, but this is common sense. The dog probably wouldn't harm a kid, but it's obvious the potential is there because it is an extremely strong dog. I think it would be irresponsible to leave such a powerful animal unsupervised with children.
