I have an iPop and like it.

This is for my son, 12, who I am not sure how much he will use it. Don't want to put a "iPod-type" money into it....yet.

I have an iRiver mp3 player. It's wonderful BECAUSE it has an accesory cord that can plug into cd players, computers, where you can upload music for free. You can't then copy the music from your mp3 player to CD. The cord has ends like headphones, the standard plug. I plug it into my computer's headphone set and hit record. They're $60 and up. WONDERFUL! My friend has an iPod and she has offered to trade!! Check it out.

How much memory are you looking for?

How old is your son? If he is relatively young and you think he is going to drop it alot, go with a flash player. I would not recommend the Rio Chiba or any Rio like the Chiba. Although they are flash players, they are 2 pieces attached to each other. After a few drops you have to continually take the device apart every time you drop it. that new cube thing looks cool, it is pretty cheap and has 1gb capacity

http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/s...140826719.htmlThis is the exact model I have. I love it. If/when it breaks, I will search for its exact replacement, AND it's the cheapest one on the list.

Now thinking about it, I'm contemplating buying one for my daughter's Christmas. She always wants to listen to mine, and mine isn't kid friendly.

iRiver products are great, I had a 256mb player before my 4gb Nano... I liked it quite a bit. Do you know what kind of space he's going to need? 1gb should hold about 200-250 songs. I just needed more space, but still wanted solid state memory, and right now the Nano offers the most in terms of solid state memory.

Only when I upload it! It's my workout music: rap, heavy metal...anything upbeat.

My mp3 has a potty mouth.

    With one memory card
at the price and with what you get (MP3 player, PSP DVD's, PSP games not to mention I think it is a multimedia player [such as wma, I think], picture viewer[you can attach a camera, I think], and also internet access.
I think anyones son would like this better.

I personaly have a RCA lyra which works pretty well, 30 gig, and still I want more memory... sure wish I had memery sticks

I have a Creative MuVo. Not too bad, no wires, as it plugs directly into your USB port. Here's a pic.

You know, it's amazing, I bought a Nano and returned it, didn't like it that much. I may get one when the bigger versiuon comes out. Kinda pisses me off it doesn't play WMA files, you can get a shitload of those on a 4gb hard drive, much more than a thousand.

Meh, 1000 songs is enough for me... I really doubt there will be a Nano released with more than 4gb of memory... The Nano doesn't use a hard drive, it's solid state memory(flash) which is why I got it... No wear & tear like some hard drive based players (which I would be worried about exercising with regularly).

They are already talking about a 6gb model, which is one of the reasons I returned the 4gb.
