    Computer Question

I have 2 hard drives. I go on vacation, come back, my computers on and it seems my roommate tried tyo log on. Long story short, my 2nd hard drive is no longer recognized on my computer. When I first logged on, I tried to open stuff (ie. porn) from that hard drive and it asked if I wanted to format it. I clicked no and restarted the computer and then the drive no longer showed up on my computer.

How should I remedy this? It is an internal drive, should I just unplug it and then plug it back in or should I move it, I think I have room for one more hard drive.

I say, "what the fuck did you do to my computer, it was off when I left and now the hard drive is fucked?" He said, "Nothing."

I said, "Did you turn it on?"

    Yes

    "Did you try to logon?"

    Yes

"Did you leave the computer on?"

I thought I turned it off.

"Then there are 3 things you are not qualified to do that you did, If I can't get it to work I am taking a new 80gb hard drive out of rent."

Not much else I can do, he owns the house, but it is a 40gb hard drive that he wrecked so doubling my capacity will be worth the 2 days it takes me to replace my porn stock.

The request to format is an indicator that something very bad happened.

Go into the Control Panel, then go into the Administrative Tools and then click on Computer Management. Click on Disk Management. What does it say for the File System in the top area for the problem hard drive?

If it reads something like "unknown" then either file allocation table has been damaged or the drive has started to fail. You should first shut down the PC, then disconnect the power supply to the hard drive, start up your PC (so that windows can see the hard drive is gone), then shut it down again. Plug in the power to the hard drive and start the PC up again. As always, when working on the inside of a PC, unplug the power cord first.

This may or may not help, but it's a good place to start.

On second thought, do an Error Check on the drive first. Go to My Computer, right-click on the problem drive and click Properties. Then click on the Tools tab. Under the Error-checking section, click on Check Now. Click both check boxes and click Start. Depending on the size of the hard drive, this may take a while.

If it came loose, Windows wouldn't offer to format the drive. It wouldn't be able to see it.

The drive no longer shows up, I checked the cables. I will unplug the drive, start the comp, and then shut it down and restart it again. Sound good?

Be sure by backing up your porn onto a CD (or DVD).

Sure for a year or two anyway, until the CD goes wrong..........

    thread highjacking:

my comp tends to out of the blue take me to a blue screen and give me messages "load needed DLLS for kernal" or "kernal_stack_inpage_error." Also the comp will start to make a clicking sound which it may or may not quit, but it always freezes the comp when it does it for the duration

it's been doing this for about a month. any ideas?

my comp still has another year warrenty on it. If it's internally fucked I can exchange it for one of equal value to it's price one year ago when I bought it, meaning I'd get a free upgrade

Hmmm......could be a few things but it's probably memory related. The first error is probably related to OS files and may need to re-install XP. The second is different and has to do with memory.

    Do you reboot often?

Something to try would be to delete your pagefile.sys and then reboot immediately. Your pagefile could be corrupt.

I'm willing to bet your room mate probably hit or kicked your comp in frustration and caused the R/W head to corrupt the disc. If I were you I would replace both drives in case he fucked up a sector of the other drive as well.

The data still might be on the drive, you can use a rescue disk program if you have another drive to offload the data. If you can do this I can let you know my favorite program (the name escapes me offhand).

I've saved data off several drives this way.
