Wondering what are you guys opinions of the Guardian Angels? They are trying to set up shop here in Toronto (3rd attempt). I think they started off in NYC (mino what do you think?).

I'm the father of BigDyl, and Topolo is the father of the foreign guy. Topolo's sperm have two tails, that's what makes the gay genetic.

What do you mean 'back to Philly'? Did they get kicked out of Philly and are now establishing there again or they decided to go away on their on and are back?

The head of the local chapter didn't like their extreme methods, so he branched off into his own neighborhood watch deal.

We have a handful here, they walk around the parks and tell people not drink there or bust people for gambling in the back of their vans.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

This thread is funny because the guardian angels came to Dallas back in the early 80s. Id say 82 or 83. I even tried to join up. That lasted all of three weeks. The group I was with took their shit extremely seriously and we even had "training" for various situations like muggings, kidnapping and stuff. Im dead serious. Of course I can now look back and laugh my ass off at their tactics. They never took off, though. The leader of our group was some young 19 year old punk (with two SMOKING hot sisters, the conceited bitches ) who made speeches, stood around like a military cop, and tried telling all of us how he had the phone numbers to all the gang leaders in Dallas. If Id know then what I know now, Id have laughed in his face. We went and did some "security" gig at a concert in the park in the ghetto section of Dallas. No one bothered us, but no one paid us any mind either. I got the impression that we werent taken the least bit seriously and our leaders knew it. Seemed like the people were saying that it wsa nice of us to be there, but if we tried anything it was gonna be our asses. So, we didnt do much of anything except stand around in our white shirts and berrets. We didnt enforce a damned thing except to the kids when some of us told them to calm down if they got to acting up too badly. It was the biggest joke and I never went back. They have not been seen here since.

It was just like that in NYC, except when Sliwa was actually leading the troops....that's when it was really business. The one good thing it does do is it takes kids out of trouble by keeping them busy.
I once thought about joining them but I had more fun being on the other side of the law....hey I was only 16.

Hasnt Sliwa lost all control of The Angels? And didnt his smokin hot wife actually leave him because of something to do with the angels? I saw him somewhere once a few years back and everyone was laughing at him. I find that kind of sad because he DID have good intentions. Im not sure if it was him or others that took it to the extremes that they eventually became known for, though.

He is still in charge, what I meant was that when he patrolled the streets he had his best people surrounding him. Not all of the Angels know martial arts, most of them are just wanna be's.
While I do agree he did have good intentions it did come with some benefits like fame.

Thats the other fucked up thing. We had these non martial artists trying to teach the rest of us martial arts. Kicks, punches...shit like that. And they also had never been to any type of training for hostage crisis or anything of the sort, but since THEY were "taught" by another chapter leader, they felt certified to teach US. Man the more I look back the more Im convinced that some of us would have either been killed or let something really bad happen because of inadequacy. Like I said, they meant well........but it was like johnny trying to teach a newb about bodybuilding and nutrition.

thanks guys.. gives me an idea about them. Unlike the past, they presently they have a bit of public support due to increase in gun violence in Toronto. But remains to be seen if they establish themselves here as the Mayor and Chief of Police are not exactly thrilled about them.

The police here never cared for them much either, but I never really heard them foul up anything.

Funny story. When they came to Dallas, they were on the radio and in the news because the police and mayor were also not thrilled with them being here. Some cat got on a radio talk show and told about how a group of them in New York had ruined some night for him and his girlfriend because they mistook her drunk laughing for something else. Supposedly they then pounced on the guy and commenced to trying to subdue him. Well, as someone said, most Angels are wannabes and this guy was the real deal. He beat the fuck out of some of them and ended up getting arrested for THAT. I believe he had some sort of lawsuit on them at the time and he was just telling them through the radio that they know about him and his lawsuit and they should take care if they are ever somewhere where he is present. He wasnt threatening physical violence, just warning them not to be stupid again. I remember that because a lot of people got on to ask that cat questions and shit. It was interesting to say the least.
