    Another mp3 player thread

Ok guys, as mentionned in the old thread, I received a 1gb creative zen nano as a gift. I used it, it was ok..except the screen is tiny and I can't make playlists. So I pretty much decided to exchange it for an Ipod Nano (despite Dale's bad review..I can do without wma files). However, now I am coming across tons of complaints online about the nano's screen cracking and scratching like a mofo. This is my first mp3 player, and since it's not cheap I want to make sure I get the right one. Now I am thinking about keeping the Creative because it may be more durable. And realistically, I may bitch and moan, but I will probably ONLY use it at the gym...so I don't think I can baby it as much as an Ipod Nano requires...I'll throw it into the little storage area on cardio machines. But then again, I want playlists! ugh! I guess I need more opinions to decide..and does anyone here have experience with the Ipod Nano? I may end up getting a different non-Ipod player just to get a bigger screen.

I read those reviews, prolly less of a concern, I guess there was a production error with the screens for only a batch of them. How long do you want this thing to last? Like I said, the battery life is much shorter (As is the case with all MP3 players) if you use the screen alot. The player I have now is pretty nice, but I get about 4 hours of life unless I put it in power saver mode, then I get 10ish. In power saver mode, i can hardly see the screen. The Ipod was the same way, and the more times you have to charge it, the quicker the battery shits the bed. Why do you need a big or well-lit screen? I can't believe the Creative doesn't allow playlists, that is fucking stupid.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

Buy a protective case, I wouldn't put that in my pocket or else of course it would scratch and very likely crack. I bought a 60 gigger iPod and I'm not going to let my over $400 investment in entertainment die, so I dropped a whopping $20 on a nice leather case with foldover protection and clip.

www.monarchcomputer.com has better prices on Opterons and probably other CPUs than Newegg, I just ran into them recently because its about time for an upgrade.

The 4G iPod batteries are user replaceable for $40 so I'm hoping the 5G will come out sometime so I can buy one for that fateful day.

I have a 4gb Nano and love it... I've had it since Sept and have no screen problems, however I cut the plastic that comes package on the Nano just so it covers the screen to act as a screen protector... As long as you don't do something entire stupid with it, you won't have a problem unless it's a defective unit. I also bought a JLO action jacket(has a clear screen cover, belt clip, and arm band) for the gym and to just carry it around with.

However, I saw in an ad a while ago, Sandisk has a 4gb solid state player that's cheaper than the 4gb Nano, so you may want to consider that was well. How many songs are you look to put on it?

1 gig, built in AM/FM radio, record 150 hours of class lectures, or hold 300 songs or so. Also double as a flash drive. Won't break like an ipod.

I have an IRiver H10 - 5gig and I love it to pieces. Its a little more expensive tho, I got it as a gift at christmas.
The only thing that pisses me off about this tiny thing is that the screen is hard as hell to keep clean.

I have the creative zen nano. 1gb, fm tuner, flash memory.

Muscle Girl, best buy has the Iriver T10 on sale this week, and it has a nice little color screen, but as I mentionned I heard the sound quality is way inferior to previous models.

So in the end I am still at a loss what to exchange it for, or to keep it, that cube thing is too tiny for me

Not necessarily... They're known because they advertise the most and the general public eats it up... I'm not saying their products are bad by any means though... You can usually, however get more for your money with other companies. I only bought the Nano b/c it had the most storage of any mp3 player without using a hard-drive... If I were getting a hard drive based player, I'd probably go with Creative or iRiver.
