    HDTV help

Hey, my question is about my HDTV. It's an Hitachi 52in CRT, kind of looks like this one:

    http://www.hitachi.us/TV/browse/proj.../51F710A.shtml

But, I believe mine is an older model because it's not as thin. Anyway, when I turn on the tv I notice that the picture does not take up the entire screen unless I make it wider, or add black to the sides...What does this mean? Is there anyway to fix the picture so all of the screen is being used...without having to stretch it and distort the quality? Also, is there anyway to check and see what the native resolution for it is, because I looked in the manual and could not find it. Only thing I found was that it supports 480i-720i-1080i resolutions.

I am looking to pick-up and Xbox 360 next week and want to make sure I am ready to go as far as my HDTV is concerned. It says it has a built in HDTV Tuner in it, so it does support full HDTV quality right?

    Thanks for the help.

read the manuel. There should be a setting somewhere.

I'm running my xbox 360 in 1080i. It supports 720p hdtv also.

You need the premium edition 360, or buy the component cables for it.

Plug the component cables in a component input, and your good to go. Switch over to whatever input you plugged them into.

Side panels mean the broadcast is not in 16:9 (Widescreen). Non-HD broadcasts are usually in 4:3 (Standard). If you select to "Fit" the picture, it will be made to fit the TV, but make the picture look worse. (No way around this). HD programs are in 16:9, and will fill the screen.

A built in HD-Tuner is for "Over the Air" (OTA) local HD broadcasts (Local HD channels).

I'd imagine your TV would be ok, but I do think the 360 games are in 720p (progressive). Someone smarter than I will know if it will work on your TV. I'd check with the CE store you bought it at.

I have mine in 1080i as well, but I think all the games are currently running at 720p. That's where I'm not sure if there would be a problem with his tv

Ok I'll check over the manual again to see if I can find the TV's native resolution.

Ya my tv always has the gray side panels and the picture never fills the screen up.....guess not having the HDTV Cable is the reason? So, since the xbox 360 and the games use HDTVs, they should automatically fill up my screen when I turn the system on? Do I have to make the screen 16:9 before turning on the system, or will the 360 do that for me?

I heard this as well, but I also heard to just keep your tv at whatever native resolution it should normally be, cause making it larger or smaller will effect the image quality

No problem, 720p is actually a higher definition than 1080i.
