    Rap Music

You know have era's have their own distinct music. examples, 60's hippie music, 70's disco, 80's 80's music, 90's rap. Hippie music, disco, 80's music all went away for the most part. Rap is still around. My question is, do you think rap music will every die down or go away? I dispise it. I think its ruining are youth. Comments.

Doesnt seem like it will....but its certainly changed since the 90s

from gangster rap to some shitty shake your ass and tits in DA CLUUUUUB rap that is fucking God awful....

hopefully sooner or later they get things right...

I happen to like alot of 'underground' hip hop, from rappers who are undiscovered and dont talk about diamonds and bling bling and bullshit like that.

70's was my favorite while I did like the 50's, 60's and 80's.
I don't really care much for Rap but I do like DMX.

70's was def the best era. If you did a world poll for anyone over 21 that would win. Great bands came out of that era.

The 70's was unique, Rock was great, Disco was great to dance to, Soul had it going on, funk was at full tilt, Salsa was at it's best, punk was just coming out, Rap was in it's infancy, pop was pop, Country had balls, Jazz was smoothhhhhhhhh, do-wop was gone but heck I still heard it during the 70's

Late 60's, 70's and early 80's classic rock is the best shit hands down. I have always loved classic rock. I was the only 15 year old out of all my friends who would of rather listened to jethro tull than staind. I always said I should of grown up in the 70's. I used to like rap music though, back when it was tupac, biggie, nwa, bone thugs....

I really dispise rap music now and I agree that it is ruining the youth today. There is nothing worse than those 14 year old white punks that think they are fucking gangstas. Goddamn it that shit pisses me off.

How is it ruining our youth? Most people who say they hate rap only know of main stream artists...not sayin that you do.

I just hate when people say that rap sucks or this or that when they only know about Eminem, Tupac, 50 Cent etc.

I've seen it from it's begining growing up where it became popular "the boogie down Bronx" and I don't care for the new stuff....I can't wait for something new and fresh.
This stuff is now a annoying humming noise.

I agree that the new stuff sucks. But that's only if you're referring to new commercial. There are so many underground/less known Mc's and rappers out there that are amazing all around. Word play, mic presence, lyrical ability, etc. etc.

I would like to see rap return to the state that it was once in, where people had messages. Now rap is all about club beats and talking about how bad ass and rich you are. Listen to music like Gangstarr, Del the Funky Homosapien, Jurassic 5, etc. They actually have messages worth listening to.

I liked your list 60... hippie, etc until you hit the 90s

To me, the 90s weren't about rap at all. It was all about 90s alternative.

    Pearl Jam
    Soundgarden
    Stone Temple Pilots
    Nirvana
    Garbage
    Greenday
No Doubt (before she turned to rap)
    Offspring
    Pixies
    Smashing Pumpkins

... not sure how you overlooked this fairly major musical movement. I can't even name more than a couple rap artists. I graduated high school in 1991 and throughout college, I don't remember rap being around really. I still only know a couple people that even listen to rap. To me it was and still is just noise that I hear when come wanna be ganster pulls up beside me at a light with way, way too much base. (so much that I am not sure if there are lyrics or any instruments other than a drum machine - notice I didn't says drums)

And hippie music extended quite a bit into the 70s... even if it changed a little.

And in some ways 80s music is back or never went away completely... or at least something just as cheesey (Spears, Boy Bands)

90s alternative never died out either. It is alive and well. A lot of those bands are still as strong as ever. Weezer, Offspring, Greenday, Soundgarden (or Audioslave now)

I never really enjoyed 70s very much actually except for a few bands. I find the 60s way more interesting. The 80s were better than the 70s but not anything popular on the radio. The 80s had some great alternative stuff like the Pixies, The Smiths, Violent Femmes, early Red Hot Chili Peppers... it's just the mainstream Wham crap that sucked.

Personally I think the Seattle music that came out of Seattle was the best popular music since the British Invasion of the 60s.

There are still some hip-hop groups that use instruments
in their bands, but I kind of think they fall into a R&B type category...
    (even if they rap)

Rap music has degenerated into complete garbage...

Groups don't even sample music anymore,
most new rap is just a drum track, with a series of
beeps, whistles, keyboard tones, and noises...

    =Complete GARBAGE

(And now I think that gansta crap has created a counter-culture...
They are ANTI: education, employment, civility, ETC)

    I don't like it...

But like I said, there are still a few real musicians out there
    (so I have hope)

The majority of the stuff played during the 60's spilled unto the 70's.
The Beatles, The Who, Santana, ElO, ELP and thats just rock. I didn't include other music 'genres'
The 90's garage bands were nice but take away Pearl Jam and all of them combined can not compete with Led Zep.

You are right. It was more the late 90's early 2000's. When I say rap is ruining our youth I mean this new "in da club" rap. commercial stuff. Spend your money on bling instead of doing something good with it.

if u hate rap music it's because you aren't listening to the right artists..out here in the bay area, we have a lot of pride and it's reflected in our rap. it's very unique..yukmouth, richie rich, e40, keak da sneak, etc...these are artists that make good music, even though they don't get sufficient airtime on the radio, except for Keak because E-40 signed to Lil Jon's record label and they have a video on MTV, "Tell Me When To Go.." I think the reason why most people can't relate to rap is because they did not grow up in the streets, like myself and most other kids in California..therefore they cannot relate to anything that is being said. Granted, mainstream rap is getting worse and worse everyday that goes by, My advice is for you to find a rapper in ur local community, hood ,etc who is talking about issues relevant to where you live.

I have listened to rap my whole life, and I have hated rap my whole fucking life. My brother listened to the shit, my best friend and roommate listen to the shit, and all my friends listen to the shit. I have heard it all from the mid 80's to the present; I know what is hot mainly because my fucknut friends make every new song into a god damn ring tone on their phone.
With that being said, RAP SUCKS A FAT COCK!!!

Rap glorifies shooting people, going to jail, being a worthless fucking thug, collecting welfare checks when your able to work, fucking every girl that will throw you a piece of ass, not knowing who your kid's other parent is, not paying child support, being poor, being uneducated, doing drugs, committing crimes, being raciest, wasting your money on wheels for your car while your front door is falling in, carrying a pistol, etc. That is just what I can think of from the Snoop Dog and Dre Cd's my brother use to listen to.

That is why I say rap sucks. I can think of no other music that sends a more negative and harmful message to kids.
I do not like country music, 80's music, pop, or dance music, but I believe those types of music still have an inherent value.
