I started kickboxing 3 weeks ago. I made a thread about it and foreman told me to update when I started sparring. Well I started sparring tonight. I mostly boxed. I only got to kickbox once. We do 3 fights, 2 rounds a piece. I got matched with boxers for 2 of them. I think I did well. I learned to keep my jab in their face. I'm taller then most of the people I fight. I'm 6'. What got me was my shoulders. They tired so fast. I was using 16oz gloves. My coach notices that I am very stiff. I think it has to do with the way I lift. I lift very stiff, like a robot almost. When I fight I tense up and they can use up a lot of energy really fast. I also need to learn to breathe out my nose.

Thank you for starting a Kickboxing thread, my second favorite sport of all times. My friends and I boxed a lot growing up, and one day this kid at school was talking shit about how his brother was some Karate badass and could kick the shit out of us at kickboxing.
My friend Justin and I met this dude to kickbox his brother in their back yard. I did well for my first time, but I would still say I lost, but my firend Justin nearly killed the dude when he kicked him in the gut. Justin also happened to be our middle linebacker and could squat 505lb.

Why dont you add some constructive criticism instead of that crap. I thought you new a lot about martial arts.Originally Posted by BigDyl

Just out of curiosity, how come kickboxing over boxing? I heard Philly has a lot of top-notch boxing gyms.

I'll just punch you in the face. Simple, effective, flawless!Originally Posted by BigDyl
Name any UFC or UFC spinoff fighter that was sucessful with jiu jitsu.
Boxers and grapplers own martial artist. Just look at the champs of UFC and look at their style.
Randy Couture - Greco-Roman Wrestling
Chuck Liddell - Kickboxing
Tito Ortiz - Submission Fighting
Ken Shamrock - Striker/Boxer
While a Jiu Jitsu fighter is trying to catch someone's arm during a punch to throw them, that other fighter is going to punch them right between the eyes with his other hand, or knee you him the stomach.
By the way, which branch of jiu jitsu do you focus on?

It does. My gym does both. Its the oldest kickboxing gym in Philly. I just like kb better. I think a kickboxer is more dangerous then a boxer.Originally Posted by KentDog

I know this. I was just in Mobile for the Senior Bowl. No offense but its a pretty boring town. Some bad parts. Saw some mean looking kids around there. Move to a big city. Gyms all over the place.Originally Posted by KelJu

Do they have MMA classes. Can you find a gym that just teaches MMA?

Thats what I thought. My buddy was wondering. He was saying with hype of the UFC that maybe there were some gyms that just taught MMA.

There is a vale tudo place down the road from me in Cherry Hill. Supposedly a pretty well known guy is the everyday instructor.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.
