    life advice please

So today I got turned down to become a recruiter. I have 5yrs in the Coast Guard and have the ability to get out next year. With all of my G.I. Bill and tuition assistance i will have like $48,000 over 36 months to go to college. I'm an E-6 and make about like $45,000 per year now. If any of you know anything about the Military it's pretty decent paygrade in such short of time period. I could reenlist and get like $30,000 for 6 more years but there is no place that I want to be stationed and i'll have to move. I plan on getting a degree in Buisness Finance which would pay me more in the long run I think. There is no place I would like to get stationed either.

    I Could:

    A. stay in keep moving around for the next 15years but be financially secure.

    B. get out and go to College and be broke as hell for a few years.

    What would ya'll do???????????

    i choose B.

get out and be broke for a few years and see what happens. It is impossible to know where your life will take you if someone else (in this case the millitary) is calling all the shots. For the next 15 years you will be owned by the government. They say move, you move, etc....At least if you get out you have the chance to be your own person and explore your opportunities. How do you know you will be broke? Lots of people go to school and work jobs. At least you have some money to pay for school.

    good luck with your decision.

I'd say go to college and suffer for a few years. In the long run it will be more financially rewarding.

Depends, I hated the military life so I bailed as soon as possible. It was easy work for measily pay and I could have gone far, I got accelerated advancment for graduating top of my class and could run circles around the e-5's/6's in my division with my computer knowledge. I got out and did college, I worked full-time as well so I didn't hurt too bad financially.

yeah, I guess I could take a shot at it. I'll try and work fulltime but I plan on taking 21 credits per sememster so i'm definatley not going to have a lot of time on my hands. I already have about 25 credit but they are in Security and itelligence so they won't crossover. Thanks guys

Stay in, by 38 you can retire and start a new career plus have a pension the entire time.....now that would be nice.

Get out and go to school full-time...

Move somewhere where there is nothing to do, and stick it to your school-work!

    Graduate...

Then pic somewhere nice to move (like Hawaii) and find a job there.

I'm going to get out, I need a change. Looking at some these people who stay in 20+ yrs, they look old and are mostly disgruntled and hate their lives. I don't want to end up like that. Doing this stuff for this long has already put some years on me and I just don't want it anymore I guess you could say. The retirement isn't very good anyways and they are starting to raise costs for healthcare and take a lot of things away from retiries. I am positive I will be sucessfull in whatever I choose to do now, for that I do thank the Military. It's time to go though.

    thanks for all your input

you cannot really go wrong by going to college and getting a degree, so if you don't want to be in the military anymore and you have the GI benefits you should use them...that is my recommendation.
