What's the deal with property prices in Fort Worth Texas?

I am looking at horse properties just outside Fort Worth and they have properties that are 2500+ sq feet on 1.5+ acres of land for around $220k.

Any other place in the country and this would be easily worth $1M.

So what's the deal on the property prices? What's the catch? Is the whole city built on an Indian burial ground and the dead walk at night or something? Might still be a good deal

    It's Texas duh.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

It's too far from the ocean so nobody wants to live there, and it's ghetto.

I was born in Canada so I am not really sure what the rest of the US has against Texas... but I have never really spent any time there either. Can you expand on that other than saying it's Texas?

It's just not a desirable place to live. I'm not saying it's a bad place to live, but it's far from being a hotbed. Look into Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee, I'll bet you'll find more land for even cheaper.

I looked into moving down in that area for an IT position and found that the property taxes were really high as well as utilities, water, etc.

Thats even cheaper than Fresno California, which to me is a shithole. Being a shithole, its one of the few areas where you can buy a house for under 300k.

Most of the jobs are in the inner city (Downtown Fort Worth and Dallas) most people want to live close to thier job. That's one reason the land is cheaper out there. There's not a damn thing west of Fort Worth until of get to Phoenix.

The further you go outside the cities the cheaper the land becomes.

Here in lovely Huntsville Alabama land prices are about the same as in TX. You can score a 3,000 sq ft (living space) and 1/2 acre for about 300 to 400K. Me and the Wife bought a 2,200 sq ft(living space) w 2car garage and 1/2 acre lot about 20 miles from Huntsville out in the country and it ran us about 190K

O yeah we have shitty tornadoes also

People dislike Texas because we're better then the rest of them. Last time I checked we got asked to be apart of this Union, not the reverse.
