I say never, although I hope that it changes...The worst rap I have ever heard gets the most airplay.....

There are alot of good hip hop artists out there IMO...but you wont hear of them unless you try hard to find songs from them, otherwise goto alot of live shows if you live in a big city

I hate rap. I made a thread about this before. Rap is killing our youth.

    I say never...

I pretty much listen to Rap from 1993-2001, with a few exceptions of today's shit. 95% of the shit that has come out in the past few years has been trash to me. I'd love to see the Wu-Tang's, Mobb Deeps, Nas's, Jay-Z's and all other well known artists who used come out with great material, go back to pre-millennium form, before hip-hop began to explode into pure marketing.

I used to listen a little of it especially when it first came out but I grew up.
If I do listen it's to DmX only.

I think the music in general today sucks. Rap is just depressing....Motown where are you.....

Im saying, there is some good rap out there still, you just have to find it....It wont be on the radio...Im not saying anyone is doing this, but I think most people judge rap based on rappers like 50 Cent...all of G Unit, Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Lil Jon....

They all fucking suck....but there is some good stuff out there Ill be happy to mention some if anyone cares

Yeah Wu Tang's gotta be my all time favorite group of MC's, but you have to agree that we're not likely to see another 36 Cambers, Liquid Swords, Ironman, Supreme Clientele...man there was nothing like waitin to get out of High School to go to the record store and get the new Inspectah Deck or Killah Priest or whatever they came out with. All their first solo albums were classics and many more + their affiliates. Now they're all switchin record labels and have had crazy disputes over money, ODB's passin..... They're all gettin old n shit too, but I hope like hell they come out with some more classics. Wu Tang albums are probably the only albums I'll ever own.

I believe they are working on a new album, I have someone on my Myspace list who is a rapper signed by Wu-Tang, but under one of those side labels like Gravediggaz and Killa Army were under...

but he told me they are working on a new album...

Last year there was an album called 'Think Differently: Wu Tang Clan Meets The Indie Culture'

It is a badass album imo....

but only a few wu members actually rapped on it, but rza was involved in alot of the tracks in one way or another

I have been around rap since the 70's when it was fun. now it's all about "Cadillac rims...Cadillac.....blah blah blah".

There was a time when a man played a romantic song for a girl he was interested now it's all about showing a girl how much money, bling and the car the person is driving......think about the type of girl you'll get.

By the way, whatever happened to boys to men and 112, they played good music.

    That is mostly true....but

There are still ALOT of songs out there that arent...again, its just a matter of finding them....

I bet there are a few good underground hip hop artists in the Bronx, not sure if you follow the scene around there though, but there are some good rappers out there who still make some fun tracks, very dj induced, alot of scratching....songs that you could break dance to....

How? Then rock must be doing the same thing to our youth with all the gothic, blacked out, make up wearing, "life sucks", sad clown looking suburban kids who shoot up schools.

I dont, I learned of most groups from Aggressive Rollerblading movies back in like 1997, Aggressive Rollerblading has always been an underground sport, just barely staying alive because not enough people do it to support the industry, most kids are about skateboarding, so the skate videos made had to use music from local groups and underground hip hop artists because they couldnt afford to pay those who were signed under a record label...

but prior to that I used to watch Yo MTV Raps all the time....I still cant believe alot of people never heard of KRS One, Black Star, Das Efx and Gangstarr lol....blows my mind...

www.undergroundhiphop.com has alot of good stuff to sample, ALOT of audio to listen to....

My nephew is into it big time, in a few weeks he should be playing or auditioning in a club.
It just doesn't tickle my fancy anymore, you do know the history of rap right? Well I was furtionate enough to be there present when it first started.
They used to take power from the street lamps to power up their turntables "damn I forgot the name" technics?? well anyway that was as underground as you can get.
Sugar hill gang was product of the radio, we used to listen to spoony Gee, grandmaster flash before they came on the airwaves.

Hope that made sense, I'm at work.

I understand, all I am saying is that there is still good stuff out there, also stuff that still sounds old school....Jurassic 5 has stuck to the roots of hip hop for the most part, People Under The Stairs, Styles of Beyond....there are more...Very dj induced, the beat shines more that the rappers do, alot of scratching...

The 4 elements of hip hop still very much exist

alot of grafitti heads out there, alot of djs, alot of mcs, and alot of bboys and girls breakdancing...

Correct. Technics 1200's are actually still today considered among the elite in turntables.

Thanks. I was going to ask for list.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

I know the history based on reading on word of mouth. I'm not as old as you, but I know you're a lot older than me and it must of been something growing up in the Mecca of Hip-Hop. I started listening to it when I was 10 or 11 and that started with Wu Tang, Beastie Boys, KRS, Big Daddy Kane, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Black Sheep.....

It was awesome. It was wierd seeing people scratch at the time.....we used to crash house parties all the time, just follow the music and go right in and munch out and party. The milk box full of LP's.

Riding the subways.....ahhhhh...but then came hollywood and twisted it.
