As I perceive it they are pretty much a joke at this point...

What can they do?

I wish the Soviets would come back into power...
Life was simpler during the US/USSR cold war

The US would support those dictatorships anyways. They support cheap labor, plus we put alot of them in power anyways. And, they know how to take orders from washington.

Your signiture says it all. The UN is completely useless, when's it going to make Israel abide by a few of it's resolutions? Never.
And this wet rag below never does anything useful, like the idiots before him.

Since 1991 the United States has been the world's dominant military, economic, social, and political power. The United Nations was not designed for such a unipolar world with a single superpower, and conflict between an ascendant U.S. and other UN members has increased. The September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S. and subsequent military conflicts have clarified the desire of other countries to use the UN as a vehicle to rein in what they see as American unilateralism.

Conflict between the U.S. and the U.N. is not new. The first major defeat for the U.S. at the U.N. was Resolution 2758 - the admission of the People's Republic of China and removal of the Republic of China against U.S. wishes in 1971 (see China and the United Nations). Since the U.S. changed its own China policy shortly after, however, this did not do lasting damage. Far more serious was the General Assembly Resolution 3379 of 1975 equating Zionism with racism, which caused great offense in the United States. Resolution 3379 was eventually negated in 1991 by Resolution 4686, but only after years of increasingly strained relations. Under the Reagan administration, the U.S. withdrew from UNESCO, and began to deliberately withhold its U.N dues as a form of pressure on the UN. By far, the U.S. was, and continues to be, the state levied most heavily by the U.N. Therefore, U.S. policymakers considered this tactic an effective tool for asserting U.S. influence in the UN. The U.S. eventually repealed its policy of withholding funds in an effort to mend the U.S.-UN relationship, but not before the U.S. had accumulated a significant debt to the U.N.

Persistent use of its veto power in the Security Council with respect to resolutions condemning the state of Israel has been a constant cause of friction between the General Assembly (which has condemned Israeli actions on numerous occasions) and the United States (see Negroponte doctrine).

The UN Failure to intervene in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, despite the fact that the UN designated Srebrenica a "safe haven" for refugees and assigned 600 Dutch peacekeepers to protect it.

The UN did nothing to protect the Bosniak civilians in Srebrenica. One hundred lightly armed dutch peacekeepers were denied repeated requests for reinforcements and consequently sidelined to witness what was to follow. Faced with the reality that Srebrenica had fallen under the control of Bosnian Serb forces, thousands of Bosniak residents from Srebrenica fled to the nearby hamlet of Potočari seeking protection within the UN compound. By the evening of July 11, 1995, approximately 20,000 to 25,000 Bosniak refugees were gathered in Potočari. Several thousand had pressed inside the UN compound itself, while the rest were spread throughout the neighboring factories and fields. Though the vast majority were women, children, elderly or disabled, 63 witnesses estimated that there were at least 300 men inside the perimeter of the UN compound and between 600 and 900 men in the crowd outside

amen. Anyone counting on Social Security is disturbed.

What chaps my ass is the applause the Democrats gave during Bush's State of the Union when he said his privatization plan was shot down. Yeah, congratulations. They'll be blaming him when the baby-boom generation reaches 65 & the well is empty...
