I was just watching a historical piece on how in the 1700's scientists
and astronomers had to form a secret society in order to practice and communicate their theories and information freely through Europe...

Which at the time was governed by different familys and monarchs,
who in turn were ruled by the catholic church

Well they tortured and killed innocents for centuries, and are still now invoilved in loathsome crimes....so I figure I can bash them another 40-50 years or so.

And just to let you know, this thread is about Catholics not Christians...and also the Pope is a Catholic.

Yes but as you so brilliantly pointed out on another thread, Christians are not all the same....so Catholics are the topic here and stop trying to change the topic.

    Hmmmm...

You're parents are rich and you hate the rich. You also seem to hate Catholics and...guess who?
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
    to improve their lives.

Yes I hate the Catholic church...but I also hate most religons. As for the Rich, my parents are upper middle class in my book so they really don't fit into the group I say I hate..when I say rich I am talking about people worth 30 million pluss.....and/or a 500K a year income.

Organized religions are the downfall of modern man. God = Good. Whorship = Good. Infact, in my opinion .. Jesus = Good. Bunch of 70 year old perverts touching little children = . But, organized religion has been the root of all major wars since Sodom and Gomora ( if they really exsisted ? )

the Catholic church has had plenty of problems over their history which makes them easy targets for the anti-religious. It's mostly earned, especially with cover-ups with the molestations. I'm Catholic & have plenty of complaints about them. However, I take what I can from the church & have my own relationship with God.

There's plenty of bad, but there is a lot of good, too.

So, in other words you turn the other cheek, instead of finding a
sect that has a better track record?

And if you're catholic, chances are you give money...
So you are finacially supporting "plenty of complaints"!? -

I see what you mean, and I have looked elsewhere. I still think the Catholic tenants suit me best. I don't blindly follow everything they say, but I do adhere to the practices & core beliefs that it presents.

It's an institution run by men and they don't always practice what they preach. I can still try to.

So do so, but voice your opinion, and don't fund them...
Or start a prayer group, and skip all the pomp-and-circumstance...

Think of this way busyLivin: They accuse you (as a Catholic) of being hateful and close-minding, yet they don't like your being Catholic and wont believe that you could can be open-minded.
