If we are committed to the existence of values, morals and ethics, we are schizophrenic and consequently insane. If we are not committed to values, morals and ethics, then confusion, conflict and insanity are not a part of our psychological nature.

any internal moral struggle can make you see yourself as two people. for instance i like porn and at the same time feel that in supporting it i am contributing to peoples sisters, daughters even mothers being treated badly. on the other hand i don't want to give up watching it.

So....... in reality.. this particular thread is not exclusive to "Americans" as the title would suggest?

Your illustration is perfect, LW, however I would submit that this duel-edged moral conflict is one shared by every nation and culture in some form or fashion.

Very true Witmaster. Take the Muslims for example. Every day they must struggle with the dilemma of "I like to cut off people's hands, but is it really an appropriate punishment for stealing bread?"

Most all governments have historically been saturated with the majority religion. We are no different ... we just wish we were.

without the existence of values morals and ethics, there would be alot less suicide and depression in american society, yet your government tries to push these things on to you

So...... If we had abslutely NO VALUE for life you think we would be less inclined to commit suicide? If there were no moral conviction to prevent someone from killing themselves you somehow think they would be less inclined to do so? If I see no ethical conflict with suicide you think I would be less inclined to carry out the act?

Your "anarchist" mentality may seem appealing to the less diligent but upon close examination it is really quite shallow and flawed.

Also... you speak as if suicide is something exclusive to the U.S. While it is true that America does have one of the highest suicide rates, the same can also apply to other countries such as, Germany, Japan, Canada, China, Denmark, Belgium, France, Kazakhstan, Malta, Netherlands... just to name a few.

We must eliminate from the mind the culturally and existentially indoctrinated, illusionary concepts of good and bad, right and wrong, ugly and beautiful, great and inferior, etc.

yea... and then we drop acid and all live in a perfect harmonious utopian society...

This type of mentality runs parallel to the non-achiever mindset that says, "I never set any personal goals... therefore I am never dissapointed in my lack of accomplishments."

The ego is defined as a primary state of mind, at one with reality, having no conscience and is consciously aware of "i am" and "it is". The "super-ego" is a secondary state of mind, not existing at birth, but originating at the moment of our affirmative commitment to values, morals and ethics and only then after intensive cultural/existential indoctrination, creates ego conscience, and is mind self-consciously aware of "i am more or less than" and "it is more or less than". The "ego" perceives reality as it is. The super-ego places values, morals and ethics on that perception. The "super-ego" is the psychological judge, jury and keeper of prison of the cultural/existential mind. The cultural mind and the existential mind are both rooted in super-ego function, stated by their values, morals and ethics. The difference being, the cultural mind speaks of "our" values and the existential mind speaks of "my" values. The post cultural/existential, reality centered mind speaks of "no" values. Zen, as represented by Enlightenment and Satori, is in direct opposition of the fascistic/dictatorial control the super-ego has over the mind of the individual and over the cultural pattern. Zen, as presented, is the mortal enemy of the cultural/existential super-ego. Zen, is the mortal enemy of any individual, organization or religion committed to the illusion that is values, morals or ethics.

Try to be original. Plagiarizing someone else's ideas in an attempt to appear credible is belittling (and insulting).
