Anne Curry (sp?) was being shown some cheap stuff you can buy to use in your home to exercise (ball, bands, etc).
Anyway, she's talking to the woman doing the explaining about the equipment and she says "everyone knows that you won't lose weight lifting weights...you have to do cardio."
And the woman she was talking to agreed with her!
I wanted to smash my tv.

It's pretty ridiculous. I have so many clients say, "I really need to work on my abs. All my fat piles up on my midsection," or something of that nature. When I tell them to stop eating like shit and make them do a bunch of compound movements they look at me like I'm retarded. All kinds of trainers just go along with that bullshit too! After watching your segment on exercise with Anne Curry (5/23) I must say that I am terribly disappointed in your lack of effort to deliver concise and correct information. Instead of actually doing some research on the subject of fitness and exercise, you instead continue to perpetrate the myth that cardio is the only way or absolutely necessary for fat loss. As a professional in the industry of health and wellness it is my conclusion that your understanding of how the human body works is pretty poor and the "experts" you get to come on your show and speak are definitely lacking knowledge. Their ideas of proper fitness training are extremely dated and if they took the time to actually study new research I think it would be much more beneficial to your viewers, rather than them just regurgitating the same old fitness myths that don't seem to be giving people the results that they are looking for.

Funny enough - i didn't see this BUT one of my favorite clients did, and she said to me during our session today that as she was watching, when she heard exactly taht part, where one said "everyone knows that to lose fat you have to do cardio" she turned it off. She said, "You have taught me differently and in the past year the results from the weight training haven't lied. To Whom it May Concern,
As a professional in the fitness industry, I am very dissapointed with some of the information presented during the segment about exercise with Anne Curry that aired on May 23rd. The so-called expert that was discussing this information with Ms. Curry confirmed one of the greatest fallacies in the fitness industry: cardio is necessary in order to lose body fat, and resistance training is ineffective in this regard.
It's great that you guys are interested in promoting exercise to the general public. That type of publicity is sorely needed and appreciated. Nonetheless, if you are going to inform the American public, don't give them bad advice; this is counter-productive. One of the reasons so many people have issues adhering to exercise programs is because they don't get the results that they want.
The fitness industry is developing extremely fast. If shows as popular and trusted as yours are allowing people to spout this archaic information, then how is this information supposed to reach the general public? Please try to get some truly qualified and knowledgeable professionals to speak on the topic of exercise physiology as opposed to someone who stopped learning after they received their college degree 20 years ago.
