    Confused.

Just finished my Sophmore year(HS), and our English final basically consisted of the book we've been reading for the past 6 weeks - Fahrenheit 451. I read the book, and the ideas pretaining social values and ideas about censorship were way ahead of their time, but at the same time I found the book more wordy and contradictory then anything. The English department at my school holds it in high regard, and most of the students really "connected" with the book? I just don't see it. The book was contradictory, and while when I took the time to look below the surface of this book I still couldn't help, but think - Damn, this shit is stupid. It's like he stated the obvious, and then everyone was somehow stunned by it...What's he trying to say? Any and all censorship is bad? People praise him for this ridiculous idea and I just don't get it. Can anyone explain why this book and the archaic ideas it represents is so popular?

Uh, what do you mean by contradictory? That there was a movie made about it? Now that's a contradiction, a book all about how society is falling more and more into a zombified state staring at the boob tube, was made into a movie that every so often is shown on the boob tube.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

I read that book last year, it was pretty good/gay at the same time. I think in my school kids liked it cos it talked about how society and the government pretty much programs people to act like robots and despite the differences, we all act the same, do the same shit. Also talked about how the gov didnt want nobody to get educated and shit in the attempt to hide our history, and realise they could be livin a better life. It was gay tho.
