Basically, it's the most titanic clash the modern world has seen.

Because people like Warren Jeffs, the leader of a polygamous sect known as the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints and one of the FBI's most wanted, like to read how Hitler brainwashed people so that they can use the same techniques. Others read about it so that they can prevent people from being brainwashed.

its the whole good versus evil thing! we all have a dark side and with it a fascination for dark things!

Men marrying multiple wives like Arabs even as young as 14, the wives all draw welfare as single mothers. The leader takes all their money as donations to the church lives like a king, has a group of young men run routine inspections on peoples homes to make sure they don't have any contraband, ie outside magazines, watching TV, not having a picture of their leader up on the wall, etc.

Because the US is uber heroic and saved the world. And it serves to remind us that any conflict the US gets involved in is as heroic, and just. Anyone who disagrees is surely a Nazi.
