Good rule: If you get her number Sat night never call before Monday and do not call later than Wednesday. It is important for her to think you are busy with things/have plans on Sunday and Monday....but you show her respect by calling her by Wednesday at the latest.....Tuesday is the best day to call IMO.

you should've set up a date before you got her number so you have a reason to call her in 2 days, otherwise your just going to be in the same category as the other idiots that got her #... if she doesn't like you she wont answer, you kind of shut yourself out before you gave yourself a chance

For future reference, get an e-mail address next time instead of a phone number. Girls tend to be more willing to give out an e-mail. If you call, there can be those awkward silent moments and you can say something stupid that screws it up.

Getting an e-mail seems less desperate and less like a pick-up for some reason. With an e-mail you can take your time and write what you want to say.... much harder to screw things up.

That's why it's better. It's even less of a commitment on your part. Especially if the guy has any self confidence issues... an initial clumsy phone conversation can be a deal breaker
