    Arrow Making a difference...

What do you guys feel is the best way to impact lives around you? This type of thread is for everyone but at the same time it's not... If all these doors were open to you which one do you think could have the largest and/or most effective impact for an average life? What has the greatest impact on you? What makes you think? Even if you decide not to follow...

impact lives around you? Like suicide bomber impact? Are you feeling ok? We don't need Christian Jihadists running around acting all Muslim and shit dude!
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

i think putting being a parent above all else until my kids are grown is the most important thing i do. and as my parents age being available to them when they need me.

Don't look back ~ You're not going that way!

I think for me it's one of two things...

It's got to be either a preacher/teacher who has nothing but the purest of heart. Or who at the least is caught up in a moment of selflessness and finds truth to share.

The only other thing that truly touches my life is music. There have been times when music has helped carry me through and/or helped me see what direction I need to go. Mainly it helps me to clarify, strengthen, and focus on what I already know and need to do or be...

Either of these two things I see as possible life if not world changers with true impact.

    Who said anything about that

Like I said, this type of thread is for everyone but at the same time it's not... I know each of us at some point have sat back and imagined a better place. A better life to live and a better person to be. A perfected way of being... I know reality can suck, but at times realities can be changed with the right force behind it. Sure, I feel that backing at the least involves God, how else can true change come... But I didn't even ask that.

What impacts you guys/gals? What makes you take a second look with quite possibly a different outlook?

I write poetry like Jim Morrison and Dax Riggs:

"WE smoke the toenails and hair
    of the wiseman
    under a BLACKGOD's thumb
    we dance like painted puppets
    she bleeds orgasm in techni-color
    an ocean of alien mystery
    we eat the wiseman's eyes
    for sight that we might
see the darkness if we kill
    the lights fast enough
we eat the brain and pray
that our eyes can open wide enough
we burn the dry shell, a funeral chant
the pulse quickens and we dance
    as the blossoms fall
a scattering of dust to the winds
    this celebration of old skin
I feel every flower that is
    screaming to consume you
the earth and sky your cradle
the earth and sky entomb you
so is the way of forever
    teeming with simple cruelties
    beatings in cold rooms
    hands and head not found"

    and Leonard Cohen:

"Ring the bells that still can ring/ Forget your perfect offering/ There is a crack in everything/ It's how the light gets in."

I love you little wing. You are wise beyond your years. With an attitude like that, you will probably have the healthiest and happiest kids with the strength to deal with almost anything that comes their way.

While my son was in school I coached football, tennis, and wrestling over the years. Along the way he and I encountered fatherless kids and sorta adopted them into our family outings. Fishing (night fishing was always a blast), boxing, MMA, weight training, city outings like Zilker park, water or amusement parks ... and just hanging out playin' football or paintball. There was a catch though ... the kids had to be good at home and school, stay off drugs, and respect the other kids in our group. After 13 years of this we have a fairly large group of friends. Not all of them turned out as well as one would hope but most are growing up to be good people. It's been an immensely rewarding experience for the family. I know we made an impact and it's a great feeling to see my son be self-aware of that.

Point of my post is get involved in your local community hands on. We can't do anything as individuals for the guys hangin on the street corners with signs tryin to mooch money, but we can maybe head a few youngsters away from that direction with just a little effort. Karma rocks.

Very cool... I know I would have enjoyed that as a kid. And without question you've had an impact... Too cool.
