    Going to Cancun, Mexico

I leave for Mexico in 3 weeks. I know you are not suppossed to drink the water. What is the name of that pill you can take to help prevent getting sick from the water? Can you get that at GNC or does your doctor have to prescribe it? Also, if there is anything you guys can think of to make it a safe, smooth trip please let me know. Thanks.

Id imagine you could go to a camping place and use the same pills that you use to clean river water.

Most nice resorts in Cancun have their own mini water treatment plants so the water is fine... but their will be lots of bottled water there. Just brush your teeth with bottled water to be safe. (and of course drink bottled). Where are you staying?

I've never known anyone to get sick in Cancun (except when tequila is involved). Cancun is very different from Rocky Point or Tijuana.

Its called "Moon Palace Resorts". Its in something Mia I believe. My girlfriend has all the info. We are going because one of our close friends is getting married down there. I could probably stick some bottles of water in my bags. I prefer to travel lightly. No Mino I did not know Topolo is close to where I am going. Thanks for the warning though

Moon Palace is a really nice resort. All the water you get there is fine.

I have been to Cancun 3 times, and I stayed at the Moon Palace one time. We also have a membership with Palace Resorts (they own it). At the resorts there is no concern with water, but to be safe I only drink bottled water and beer.

You will like the Moon Palace it's huge. The two things I did not like were how secluded (some people like that though) it was, meaning it is far from the "main strip", however they do run buses regularly. The other thing I did not like was the beach. The Moon Palace has a rocky beach and the water has a lot of seaweed. If you take some tours and go to the main area of Cancun you will see what I mean.

If you like golf the Moon Palace is the best resort as they have a Jack Nicklaus signature course.

I heard about the seaweed from someone else. I golfed once in my life. I work for NBC and PGA tours so I work the golf events a lot. I just never really go into it. Maybe I should hit the driving range before I go. I think we have a jacuzzi in our room.

Come on. I have lived in Mexico for 11 yrs. Drink all the bottled water and water from restuarants you want. You just never drink tap water like you do in the states. You want to take some pills, take some D-bol or Anadrol and enjoy yourself.

try and make sure you get a room close to the main lobby/pool area, they stuck us out at the furthest set of rooms and the walk sucked... like I said the resort is huge and the rooms are spread way the f*ck out, even if you have to pay extra to get closer in it will be worth it (trust me).

every room has a jacuzzi tub.

oh, also you can go to the 'main strip' where there are more Palace Resort hotels (Sun Palace & Beach Palace) and use their pools, eat there, etc.

If you want something just in case you get drunk or forget and drink some tap water ask your doc for Lomitil, it works really well for the worst of the runs plus I get a slight buzz when I take it or just feel high because the atropine can dilate your pupils. You take a pill or 2 before each meal and after.

I think I will just do the bottle water thing. If I get sick o well. I don't want to have to take pills if I don't have to.

1 US dollar = 11.245 peso. Should I get some traveler's checks from my bank? I was told, by a co-worker, that they will exchange money for you at the hotel and credit works everywhere.

They are perfectly happy to take American dollars. Isn't that resort all-inclusive? You probably won't need any money unless you plan on buying stuff...

Last time I was in Cancun, I just brought a credit card and about $100 USD. I used the credit card for scuba diving but I don't think I spent all of the $100.

Yes it is all-inclusive. Don't you still have to tip? Yes I would like to do some things such as scuba diving. I won't bother with traveler's checks then.

visa/mc and a few hundred bucks and you will be set, you do need tipping cash so bring plenty of one dollar bills.

Taken from the Moon Palace web page:

" Purified Water - at all Palace Resorts Hotels • Tipping - even your tips are included in your all-inclusive Palace Resorts package "

Yeah, you can just walk around in your swim trunks, order anything you want, eat and drive and not even worry about cash. I think I left my wallet in the room the whole time I was in Cancun. That way you can just jump in the pool anytime you want and not worry about getting your wallet wet.

I leave Tuesday Morning 7:30AM. Yes, I heard that I don't have to tip. I thought Rob said he tipped though. I'm so excited. One more day of work then I'm off.
