Well, it looks like Ann Coulter may be starting to lose some newspapers that publish her weekly rants, as the Shreveport, Louisiana Times is openly considering dumping the poet laureate of the wingnut movement from their lineup of editorial page opinions. The action follows on the heels of a Kansas newspaper depositing La Coulter into the dung pile a few weeks ago.
Coulter, whose tantrums are featured in some 100 newspapers around the country, is also facing headaches with plagiarism charges about both her new book Godless . . . and discrepancies reportedly appearing in her own column. Last week, the New York Post (a con-servative tabloid) reported that she was discovered to have copied and pasted words without attribution. The allegation follows other reports of pulling information from other work without crediting the source:
Conservative scribe Ann Coulter cribbed liberally in her latest book, "Godless," according to a plagiarism expert.
John Barrie, the creator of a leading plagiarism-recognition system, claimed he found at least three instances of what he calls "textbook plagiarism" in the leggy blond pundit's "Godless: the Church of Liberalism" after he ran the book's text through the company's digital iThenticate program.
He also says he discovered verbatim lifts in Coulter's weekly column, which is syndicated to more than 100 newspapers, including the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Sun-Sentinel and Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle.

Meanwhile, Editor and Publisher reported that Coulter is making Republicans, along with some newspaper editors, nervous:
He (Craig Durrett, editorial page editor of the Shreveport Times) also cited the analysis of Republican B. Jay Cooper, former deputy press secretary to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush: "To me, Ann Coulter's exercise of her right to free speech is the political equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded theater. She crosses the line of decency. To me, individuals who engage in name-calling and hate speech to get attention, sell books, increase speaking fees and feather their own nests, are speaking for themselves, not any political party. My problem is the popular presumption that she represents the Republican Party. We all get painted with her tainted brush."
Still, Annie is picking up awards for her work. Just this last week:
The National Society of Newspaper Columnists, meeting in Boston this past weekend, awarded Coulter its annual Sitting Duck Award for easiest column target. The NSNC noted that it gave the prize to the columnist/author "for cheapening political discourse in America." The statement added: "We award the Lame Duck reluctantly, because we know Ms. Coulter is desperate for any kind of attention."![]()

The NSNC usually presents that award to people who create "fodder for those with writer's block," (Editor and Publisher) - Michael Jackson and Saddam Hussein have been nominees. Last years winners included Sacramento Bee columnist Diane Erwin, who fabricated 30 people into some 27 of her columns. Erwin lost her job.
Annie is also facing some troubles with Universal Syndicate, the company which distributes her "work." The Syndicate has asked the plagiarism analysis company for a report - while besieged Ann slashed back at the con-servative newspaper that published the allegations:
NEW YORK - Universal Press Syndicate has requested a copy of a report about Ann Coulter's alleged plagiarism, according to a post on the TPMmuckraker.com blog. Meanwhile, in her latest column, Coulter has hit back at the newspaper that aired the latest plagiarism charges -- but did not refute them.
The report was conducted by John Barrie, creator of the iThenticate plagiarism-probing system. A New York Post story this Sunday said Barrie found examples of alleged plagiarism in Coulter's new "Godless" book as well as in her Universal column.
Universal Director of Communications Kathie Kerr, when contacted by E&P, said she called Barrie this morning and left him a message asking him for a copy of his report. "Once we see a copy of the report, we'll be happy to comment on the findings," she added. "We take allegations of plagiarism very seriously." E&P has also left a message for Barrie.
The alleged plagiarism is the latest development in a tempestuous 2006 for Coulter. Universal distributes Coulter's column to more than 100 newspapers.

I read Godless, and I wasn’t impressed. I don't doubt that she said things that have been said or written before, because everything she wrote has been said and written a 100 fucking times already! It’s the same shit, different day.
Her book is about 50/50 bullshit.
I figure the reason behind that is because both liberals and conservatives are completely full of shit and are only concerned with pushing their agenda.
It was quite funny. Everything she said about liberals is true, but everything she said about conservatives was false.
There is no good guy/bad guy here. There is only one big steaming pile of good ole fashion American bullshit.
“I used to do drugs. I still do drugs. But I used to, too.”
Well, and some potential copyright infringement.
Nothing new, plagiarism has hit an all time high in society.

I am not a big Coulter fan, but I find it amusing when liberals complain about name-calling. Coulter treats liberals the way they treat people who disagree with them and they cry about it.

Not true. She's a professional pundit playing the major media circuit. Her speculation is pure sensationalism:Originally Posted by Pepper

She consistently calls for the murder of people that disagree with her. Or she accuses them of being traitors. That's pure propaganda.
Personally, I find her brand of commentary informative in that it helps to know your enemies well--by that I mean she's an enemy of competent scholarship and argumentation.
Can anyone provide any mainstream liberal pundit that's a counterpart to Coulter in respect to calling for the murder of political opponents?
Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot?
Coulter has the meaness that is common on the left. It all started with Bork...then the left realized how far they could get with it. Not that the right does not have it's meanies, but the left has perfected the personal attacks.
You quoted me as if I am defending her. I am not. I do not care for her brand of conservatism. Her message gets lost in her delivery. What I am saying is that her nastiness is common on the left.

I love it when she goes to a college campus and the liberal students who value free-speech and choice, shout her down so that she cannot speak and those who chose to attend can't hear her.
Yes, THEY are the enlightened ones.

Franken's book has a pic of him on the cover in professorial garb and pipe indicating some level of sophistication--the title of his book is a childish insult--that's hilariously ironic. That's a joke.Originally Posted by Pepper
Where's the joke in poisoning Justice Stevens or wishing McVeigh would have bombed the NY Times?
I understand your point Pepper, but I still haven't seen one mainstream liberal pundit that labels opponents as traitors to their country and calls for their murder.
And you accuse Ann of "sensationalism"?!?Originally Posted by Decker

You can see the sarcasm in Franken but in Coulter?
Do you really mean to suggest that Ann is SERIOUS about killing Justice Stevens or that the NY Times was bombed?
Take IM for example. We have several threads on Limbaugh's minor drug issues. Including a very long thread on the minorest (is that a word) of allegations - possession of Viagra. Throughout that tread, Limbaugh is called an idiot. He and I both were called "fat pieces of shit." We have this thread on Coulter...we don't have a single thread that I have seen on the NY Times scandal.
You are not a name-caller, but the left is infested with them.

I'm assuming here that there would be NY Times workers in that building.
Man, Decker, she identifies it as a joke for you! You have to go way out of your way to try to make that a serious comment. I don't like joking like that, but that doesn't make it not a joke.Originally Posted by Decker
