and take a look at youth today as a result of being subjected to it. Shit when I was in high school I walked into class with a rifle and colt 45 with bullets for a show and tell project and teachers could care less. We put a porno in the video tape player when teacher left room and he just started laughing. Shit he probably was even enjoying it as well LOL...

But today's "heroes" shouldnt be 50 cent or fucking tupac.
Kids need better people to look up to.
There is always the president they can look who gives massages to other women then his wife or barry bonds who not got busted for roids, but also tax evasion.
it's about being cool (socially acceptable), not being a good example.
rap is ghey! i listen to country/rock/oldies :P
There's some good rap out there, all the good stuff is really indie though, a bigger name is Atmosphere, I like him. I primarily listen to hardcore, metalcore, experimental, progressive...

IMO rappers are nothing but a bunch of lazy asses that don't know how to work for a living......
Rap is garbage... At a time it was all I listened to, but then I realized what a POS it is!
May the Lord Jesus Christ bless those who bless me as I gladly accept their blessings, and curse those who curse me all the while protecting me for any evils. In Christ name, amen...
it is really close minded and stupid to say any one genre of music is "ghey". except for techno, nobody with two nuts to rub together listens to that shitOriginally Posted by kenwood
To all other "rap sucks" yeah, most mainstream rap is garbage because the powers that be realize they can put anything they say into it because they know people will buy it. you should look into indie stuff, because those are the guys who have to work their way up, and generally actually have something interesting to say

If they show up to the studio and put down tracks then they obviously have a job.Originally Posted by TBAR

OK, maybe not "all rappers" but you have to admit that alot of them have never worked a real day in their life like most of society has too? I know they don't need to since they're millionairs, which is what pisses me off even more!Originally Posted by maniclion

My brother starts the worst threads. Now, but seriously. I enjoy a lot of todays rap. I understand them just fine. No idea what music you're listening too. Sometimes I just want to zone out and listen to the beat, so what? That doesn't make Tupac or 50 Cent my idol. If I had to pick a idol it'd be Hank Williams Jr. and he's not much better then either of them. So stop with the profiling you racist.

Damn, a lot of shit-talking going on here with regard to rap. That's unfortunate. There is a lot of great rap out there with positive messages spoken through thoughtful metaphor and simile. I don't like rap where the focus is talking about how rich they are and how flagrantly they spend their money, but when it's about growing up and trying to make it in a fucked up world, about achieving something, about love, or any other topic such as these, I'm all for it. Sometimes they come up with simply amazing rhymes and their vocals are turned into another instrument so to speak.
Groups/artists I like include Jurassic 5, Del the Funk Homosapien, Gangstarr, Jedi Mind Tricks, etc.

One of the coolest arrangements of lyrics the way these lyrics are woven through each other for the chorus:
Chorus*Aesop overlapping Illogic, fading in and out of each other*
[Aesop Rock]
Platforms have been erected
Effigies built
Slogans coined, songs have been written
Rumors have been circulated
Autographs faked
The hourglass smashed and didn't leave me an escape
Moving boxes have been worn out
Mantlepieces dusted
Idols idolized, the sands have been shifted
Curtains have been closed
Sleepers all waked
The hourglass smashed and didn't leave me an escape
[Illogic] *overlapping Aesop, fading in and out*
Now with my trusty paperclip
I picked locks of thoughts vault
Finding the garden barren
The harvest fruitless
Only the Tree of Life flourishing
Wanting to take a bite but I'm toothless
Is that, predestination or is it by design?
That I'm trapped in time sand
Show radio mission control but for my rhymes
Man cuz I can like aluminum
And I recycle my consciousness
This is just a note
For any action or lack thereof there's a consequence
