Have you ever felt like you knew more than the professionals giving you advice?

Maybe they think they will blow my mind if they say all the things they know about the subject to me or they dont say it because they dont know it all. Have you ever felt like you knew more than they?

If I felt like I knew more then someone, chances are I wouldn't be asking them for advice in the first place.

Every time I call tech support when a piece of hardware fails and I need them to send me a new one.

I have to go through 30 questions even after I explain to them that I am a computer professional, and that I have ran all of the shitty diagnostics, just send me the new drive and I will send you the broken one.
I think all computer people understand how I feel. I know they have a checklist that they have to go through, but it is still annoying.

I do sometimes, this trainer at my gym, who I asked for a spot of bench press, told me I should hold my breath as long as I can while I bench because exhaling deflates your chest.

I have no engineering degree, no electricians qualifications never been to an architectural college yet I find myself drawing diagrams, explaing proper circuit protection or teaching guys with advanced degrees how to properly mount a roofing structure on a roof all the time. One thing that can't be learned in schools no matter how far you go is critical thinking and imagination.

Agreed. God, if I have to RMA something I just go through the Internet now. Generally the conversation goes something like this, "Yes, I rebooted the computer. Yes, I rebooted it again. Yes, I also shut it down completely and then turned it on again 10 seconds later. Yes, I rebooted once more after I tried that. Got anything else I can try?"

    Lol, thats scarily accurate.

Thats their answer for every single tech support question i ask. CDROM Not working? REBOOT! Heard the hard drive fail? REBOOT! Spyware slowing your PC to a halt? REBOOT! PC and Monitor on fire? REBOOT!

I love tech support. Last week my VOIP phone stopped working. So they try a few more ports on the patch panel. The first one they try is activated, goes amber, then turns off. They test that port and it doesnt work. "Oh..." she says "your old phone seems to be blowing out the ports on the patch panel." and proceeds to try it in FOUR MORE PORTS.

Then she took it away. I still havent been given a new one, because when she came back the following day to install it, she couldnt get it to work, and somehow broke my PC's connection to the network aswell.

About 5 hours of downtime later, my PC works, but i still have no phone, and 6 ports on the patch panel are 100% un-usable.

I doubt they can even spell.
