    Finding Cheap Airfare

Hey guys, so I am currently in a long distance relationship with this wonderful girl, and we haven't been able to find any really good deals on airfare. Do you guys have any tips? I've checked Expedia and a bunch of those other sites plus the normal airline sites and everything is around $400 or more for a roundtrip ticket.

Right now I'm helping her look for a flight from Orlando, FL to Cedar Rapids, IA for Thanksgiving (November 22-27).. the departure date isn't for sure yet, as I'm trying to get her to come 4 days earlier (November 18 or the 17th if in the evening).

Can anyone help me out? I might be in love with this girl!

(please, no negative posts about long distance relationships not working, etc.)

The cheapest I've found is when you access the airlines directly... fuck expedia, travelocity, etc....

I've been going Southwest for a while (within the US) and if you have enough flights within the year, sign up for the rapid rewards and you get a flight for free!

Sound's cheaper than boxing her up and shipping her UPS.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Yeah, I've used Northwest to go to her but their best deals are if you have frequent flyer miles, which I just used all up. Airtran is the best deal we have found so far at about $230 roundtrip, but the closest arrival city for her coming to me would be at the Quad Cities (about 2 hours away).

Calculate the difference in cost and factor in gas and all of that stuff. If it's only about 30-40 bucks cheaper to fly her into the Quad Cites I wouldn't waste your time. Maybe there is a way for you make some money before she comes. Go do an odd job or two I'm sure there is pleanty of farmers who pay cash around there. I did this all the time when I lived in Minnesota, just look through the paper and you'll find something.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience, Jenny, it definitely makes me feel more comfortable about this whole long-distance relationship deal. I never would have thought such a thing would work, nor did I think I would ever be willing to try, but then I met this amazing girl and all I want is for it to work. She's so wonderful.

I wish I were living in a larger city. A lot of these online discount airfare websites don't even have any flights departing from Cedar Rapids, IA. The ones that do typically have more expensive tickets (Travelocity chargers $120 more for roundtrip tickets going to CR than flights from Moline.. you save even more with AirTran, something along the lines of $200). But as Joe said, there are other costs like gas, road food, and inconvenience.

The cheapest roundtrip tickets I have been able to find for Nov 22-27 (Orlando, FL to Cedar Rapids, IA) have been $349 (after taxes and fees) from Northwest Airlines (Orbitz). The second cheapest I have found is $382 (after taxes and fees), also from Northwest Airlines, but using Travelocity. Do these prices sound typical? I was told around $200 for roundtrip was good, especially since I would be booking 2.5 months in advance. Where do I find these kinds of prices?
