Thread: Senate weighs 700-mile fence along border

Isn't there already a fence? Or is it just not big enough to be effective?

I hope it's a mile high, those Canadians are a wily bunch...

This article entails much more than just the proposal to erect a huge Barrier/fence...

I'm all for securing our borders. The whole Idea of a fence is a tangible concept but only if the government is willing to allocate resources to PATROL AND AMINTAIN said fence. Otherwise it will only be a matter of time before ambitious border-jumpers knock holes in it and we're back to square one.

My concern about illegal border crossing is it is such an easy avenue for terrorists to infiltrate this country. Something needs to be done to curtail this threat.

Typical Government at work, this should have been done at least 30 years ago.

Lets just hire the illegals who are here now to guard the borders and for every person they drop with a tranquilizer dart and tag with an electronic tracker thats a point on a system leading to their citizenship, who better would know how they get across than someone who has come across????

In order for anything to work the consequences must be intimadating.These people illegally crossing our borders must be treated as criminals and not just deported.Treat them as a potential terrorist for sneaking into the country.Also stiffer penalties for anyone who hires them.How was that for your typical redneck response....

The response I usually get is something along the lines of declaring an "open season" on "cans" and putting a bounty on the number of people you shoot crossing the border. Oh... and all border patrols must take place in a Big Foot 4WD and uniforms must display a confederate flag somewhere.

They don't need a fence of wood, they need bullets of metal. After a few of the illegal are killed trying to cross the border, the tide will ebb.

No they'll weigh a 10 foot section with a regular pallet scale, do some math, then say they needed to buy a special scale to weight the whole thing and blow the money on limos and hookers like they usually

Add armed soldiers. Shoot illegals on sight.

fence building. sounds like an amazing waste of dollars and resouces. lets look at the history of building walls on borders. the great wall of china, hadrians wall, the berlin wall, and as recent as what they have done in israel on the west bank. too bad history shows the walls usually outlast the civilizations that build them.

Sure, the great wall spanned about 4100 miles, was never finished in one dynasty, and was quite effective in it's day.
